Between Man vs Wild and my highschool chemistry teacher - urine is nothing more that filtered pure liquid. It's benefits may be debatable in a survival situation, however the consensus is that it's potential for harm is nil.

Is that really true - is it 100% harmless?

I ask because while I wash my hands after peeing at the house, when I'm outdoors I'll pee on a tree and do a few things before the next time I get a chance for washing. So I worry if I'm contaminating these things I touch. Everything says that a drop or two on a wrench or axe that you use later won't be a problem.

And if that is true, then technically all those times we wash our hands after going pee are pointless, right?

PS: By saying "yes" you're not implying that you'd actually drink it like crazyman Bear Grylls.

Seriously, hell no dudes. I just trip too much on the fact that when I take a leak outdoors and touch my guns, axes, tools, and shit - that I'm contaminating everything.

Pretty soon my kid's gonna be using those tools and all.
 
on man vs wild he didnt drink straight pee... he dug a hole, placed a cup in the middle and pee'd around the cup and then covered it with a plastic covering right, then used the conensation for drinkin water...
 
Yes, urine is sterile and can be consumed twice I think before becoming noticeably toxic. I remember reading that in one of my survival manuals.
 
:wow I'm not surprised this question is getting asked, but I'm surprised that T-1 didn't already know you can drink pee. I would have assumed that living out in the middle of nowhere one might have to resort to it every once and again.
 
I wash my hands after I pee mostly because I wouldn't want to shake your ball-sweat covered hand.
 
Dude, do you whiz all over your hands when you piss outside? I'd think you could do it without having to touch anything but your zipper.....

And yes, I already stated I've been told and have believed that it's ok, but nowadays - when a drop bounces off a tree and hits your hand and you get back to work on the truck, you later come in and see your baby take your hand and put it in his mouth and ask yourself "shit, did I wash my hands after that last piss?" <- and hence I click "submit new thread"...

it's not always completely safe. there are diseases and infections which can make urine harmful, especially if it is someone else's urine you are drinking.

in terms of just touching stuff and getting a faint amount of urine on them, no big deal. i can't believe you're worried about your kids eventually using tools which have been 'contaminated' with pee days, weeks or months prior. don't worry about it!
 
not good if you have an illness. otherwise, yeah it's sterile. there's all kinda shit on the outside of your body that will contaminate the pure yellow tho.

I'd recommend drinking it quickly after dispensation from the orifice.

I wouldn't worry about little t-2 though, he's gonna find more efficient ways to get hisself sick. iF you are worried...wipe yer shit down then. jeez, does BARF have to hold your hand or something? ....wait a min...eww, no thanks. :twofinger

The thing about drinkin your urine is that if you are ever in a situation where you actually need to drink soemthing that bad, you will get mostly urea and not much water because the hypothalamus is kickin out loads of vasopresine to keep your water in already. Urea is basically just waste ammonia (i believe its a byproduct of amino acid breakdown) that your liver turns into urea which is less toxic to your body than ammonia.

Your best bet is to do what Grylles did and make a still or whatever its called to collect the water.
