1982 Suzuki GN250. The current GZ250 and TU250X are heavily based on the GN. 1988.
It was the perfect bike for a beginner, in the 55MPH speed limit days. It would easily do 65, and 82 if you'd kiss the fuel tank.
Had the world's touchiest front brake though, if it were wet and cold. It was a double leading edge drum brake, and that first touch on a cold day would fully compress the forks. If it were wet, well, you were going down.
I learned on that bike, that its the rider, not the bike, and embarrassed more than a few sport bike riders in the twisties, smoothly going from spark throwing lean to opposite spark throwing lean, while carving the quickest line. Course, hitting a good pavement heave or pothole in that condition would leave you on the pavement, and I had that happen more than a few times... I also learned that no tires is better than cheap tires, and kept it fitted out with K591 elites, which the motorcycle shop guys used to chuckle at, this little econo bike on the latest in tire technology.
It was stolen after a too brief few years, probably by somebody wanting to put the 4-valve engine in their dirt-bike or ATV.
I loved it and miss it. I was tempted to buy a GN400 a while back for a song, as it's the same bike, but with a bit more kick(literally, kick only), but I didn't have room for the bikes I had.
