santa clara cycles quoted me a week ago at 65 and i called again today to set up an appointment and now they want about 100 :thumbdown

wheels on they quoted me at 65 last week. i dont have stands for my bike to take the wheels off and bring them in

"They" quoted you? Did you talk to a manager or someone in charge, or just a random lackey? It's possible the employee was a new higher and didn't know there was a price difference on/off the bike. I have no affiliation with Santa Clara Cycles (don't even know where Santa Clara is), just advising you to consider the possibility before condemning the business (it's implied).

90 to 100 bucks for wheels on the bike, sounds about what most shops charge.

Just call around, I am sure you will get quotes from 80 to 100 on the bike for most shops.

I would just buy stands:thumbup

If you are coming up to, or can come up to the city this guy rules and I think he charges $40 per tire on the bike, including disposal of the old one and wheel weights/valves etc.

If its hard for you to go into the city, you can give Shawn a call to see if he can go help you do the change at your house. His rates are very fair considering he does house calls, so you don't even need to worry about how to get your new tires to a shop if you already have them at your house.

anyone would be irritated if they were gonna get a smokin deal and then they get charged almost twice as much

$65 for two tires on bike is too smoking a deal to be believable though. If I were in your shoes, I would have reiterated on the bike to see if he was mistaken. Most likely he though off, you thought on, and there was just miscommunication. Happens. Doubt he was trying to bait and switch ya.

You're gonna pay around $90-120 on the bike, depending upon where you go, so I'd just decide if they are the best option in that range. Every time I've tried to save $$$ by going with some fly by night shop to save a few bucks, I've ended up with scratched rims. I pay extra to have my dealer do my tire changes, but I warn them everytime that I expect not a scratch.

yes, even then they seem to usually leave some type of mark. Glad I have black rims that I can take a sharpie to.

:thumbup for Robbie aka mototireguy

he charged me only $33 for both the front and rear tire.
that's cheaper even than at the track!
and he did it in only 15 minutes!

if you don't have the tools to take yer wheels off of yer bike, ask a BARFer!
seriously. Most are always willing to help another BARFer out.
