Yeah, I don't buy that either. There are a few people who honestly may not have seen me, the rest saw me and decided to go anyway. I don't care what the reason is, whether they thought they were bigger or better and deserved to get in front of me, or like someone else mentioned, saw me but sucked at judging speed and time, or just homicidal/suicidal - plain crazy... who cares? Fact is, they saw me, and it's not my place to try to figure out how their malfunctioning brain reacted after they saw me. If they looked right at me and didn't "see" me, well, they are so blind or so mentally ill that they shouldn't be on the road period. That, used as a legitimate excuse, is probably very, very rare.

Example: I was in my car, in the left turn lane, stopped at a red light. My light turns green. As I pull forward, some moron going the opposite direction in the right turn lane, slows for his red light. I make eye contact with him, and I wonder whether he will try to pull out in front of me even though I have the green and he has a red. My instinct was right, after he looked me right in the face (because he knew my lane had a greenlight), he decides to turn right in front of me into my lane, never making a complete stop for his red, and I had to brake to avoid hitting him.

Also, have you ever tried to merge into a space in the next lane, turn on your blinker, and see that the ass who WAS a couple car lengths behind you in the next lane has now sped forward to close the space you were trying to merge into? I'm not talking about cutting someone off, I'm talking about merging into a space a few car lengths long, and then having someone with an ego problem close that space because he has a problem with you getting in front of him. It's happened to me more times than I can count, and I'm pretty sure they saw me, my car, and my blinker, and decided to make a dick move. When I see someone who is politely trying to merge into my lane, I make more room to be safe and nice. Maybe it's just me? :confused

I still maintain that some people do indeed see you and just don't care. Just like the stories of cagers who try to chase people down and run them off the road, etc. They see you just fine, and don't give a shit about your safety or property.

I like you..! :rose

Your about the only person here that knows what's going on out there... :thumbup

Sorry dude. It's well known the Italians spread venereal disease and are all criminals as well.

I'm afraid this guy want's to make you an offer you can't refuse... :laughing

In a crisis, you don't rise to the level of the situation, you sink to the level of your training.

Not arguing with your statement, but the more experience you have, the less likely your current predicament is actually going to become a brain-freezing panic-causing crisis.

Believe me, if I was trolling, you wouldn't know it . Obviously sarcasm is lost on you.

:laughing No, no... I get sarcasm. This last post of yours was dripping with it! Hilarious! :rofl

Exactly! "A superior pilot uses superior judgment to avoid situations that require superior skills."

Let me give you a tip:

Every time I see a car moving on a side street, even if it is coming to a stop, I assume it is going to pull out in front of me.

It doesn't matter if I'm on a bicycle, driving, or riding.

I also make a plan to avoid hitting the car if it pulls out. It might be slow down, merge into another lane, even cross the double-yellow if I think it is clear. Luckily I haven't had a car pull in front of me, but maybe because I plan for it.

You better make the same assumption if you want to ride safely around SF.

I drove a cab in SF a long time, and today I was driving around the City and was reminded how many people just change lanes or pull into traffic without looking. I think there is an entitled "they wouldn't dare hit me, so I'll just pull out in front of them because I'm in a hurry" zeitgeist in the souls of many SF drivers. Believe me, that woman saw you coming. She just figured she was big enough and important enough to ignore you. Simple as that.

There are those that criticize the MSF-BRC, but I know that my students would have reacted correctly in this situation, even at 40 mph, despite being trained in "just a parking lot on little bikes."

They would have known to use both brakes to stop, and to NEVER release the rear brake while in a rear-wheel skid. At least they would in their first 6 months of riding...after that, people acquire bad habits, like (for instance) buying into the silly myth of not using both brakes.

Just an example of how a little training can go a long way.

Not giving you a hard time, Budgie, you sound like a cool guy...I'm glad you're okay.

i didn't lnow there were any Asians in Lincoln...

Why not?

Having scary stuff happen to a rider on a regular basis, aside from its being scary, is a good indication that the rider is doing something incorrectly. If you get your tie caught in the blender every time you used the blender, you'd probably be better off not wearing a tie instead of accusing all the small made-in-Taiwan appliances around your house of trying to "get you".

Get health insurance. Park your bike and don't ride until you do. That "I'm just going around the block" feeling will get you in a lot of trouble.

I let my car insurance lapse once and figured, "What the heck, it's just a quick errand. I'll be ok." and drove my car without it. $12,000 dollars later I had learned a hard lesson. Even if you are careful, stuff happens, and if you happen to be on that bike without health insurance and it happens... you'll be kicking your own ass for years paying off the debt and dealing with possible long term injury's on your own.

It's dangerous out there. Riding without health insurance is like daring the cosmos to kick your ass.

it was my front brake that did stop me, like i said it was panic i dont know why i slammed the back brake, shit im just fucking human, people in here talk like its a fucking sin,the chick driving the car was a younger woman, not old,

Don't be a shithead.

Racism is the refuge of the idiotic.

And if you don't see what you did wrong, going too fast on a busy street, not reading traffic well, and barely being able to execute a panic brake, good luck with yourself.

It's funny how people get defensive about stereotypes as though they are outright lies. They are stereotypes because a large portion of the group actually behaves like that stereotype. Not all, but enough to make it seem like they all do.

Dave

sanjuro im not being a racist, its fucking true asians do drive like shit, like i said my girlfriend is asian to,and she drives like shit, dont be butt hurt its a fact,

Also, I'm with the other about her not really seeing you. Many folks drive almost on autopilot; they're waiting for "no cars coming," and as soon as "no cars coming" is fulfilled they reflexively roll. Motos ain't cars..
Very good way of putting it!

About this "seeing" issue-- this video has been posted many times, but it's a good one for those who haven't seen it already:

Granted, it's a bit of a stretch when the road is empty and the moonwalking bear is, say, a FIRE TRUCK with blinking lights and shit-- but depending on just how preoccupied/stupid the person is, it can happen. And yeah, people with awareness problems that severe really probably should not be out on the road, but there they are.

Meanwhile, it would seem bored white people like to hijack threads with debates about racism? :p

Guys, locking up the rear a little in a panic stop is easy to do, it happens. You don't have to treat him like he's some complete moron, when clearly he managed not to fall down or die. Maybe he could've scored better with a prettier perfect triple lux, but he got the job done.

but im safe, and alive to tell the story, i learned a lot from last nite,

yes i was in the wrong for speeding,i didn;t say i was not speeding,

Yes, you are being racist. I know women of all races that would run circles around you. There are good and bad drivers/riders period. Men and women.

Look for suspensions and a closed thread soon.
