580 Shootout stalls my engine - Input?

The Ducati Dealer said "they tend to stall" ???? Was that before you bought it? Or something said as an after-thought as you were leaving the Dealership with it?

I'd guess the Dealership will be the Authority, on this one...but when You find out, the why...please let us know....and ease our inquiring minds :thumbup
During the break-in period only, yeah. The engine runs very lean and likes "fresh" 91 octane gas. Knowing that I was going to be parked in the sun for a while before heading home, I refueled right before leaving. I got caught in serious traffic because of 580 being shut down and everybody being re-routed. The temperature stayed over 200+ for quite a while until I could get back on 80 and hit it, so I wonder if that could have contributed.

Sure could of...(but shame on Ducati if gas tank pressure from heat isn't managed). Thing is, you were just using your bike, and even though conditions can go out of Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood conditions...they do, and your bike needs to cope....When Your bike doesn't, it puts your life at risk.

If your Dealer can't step up to the plate to correct this...pay a call to Dan Kyle Racing down by Monterey/Seaside (I think he is actually in Sand City) He Da Man :thumbup

I know right?! I don't want to think of having an engine stall while on Mines, in a turn :wtf
Just called Ducati Roadside Assistance and they'll tow the bike to my dealer.
I bought the 4 years extended warranty & tire service plan from them so I wanna believe Hattar Motorsports will step up to the plate and take care of this issue professionally.

Thanks for the contact info.

It started as a pretty nice day, met with a lady friend if mine who wanted to ride Mines but is a n00b so she asked me to tag along. Left SF at 8:30AM to meet in Oakland and as I was getting to my exit I notice all the cops, yellow tape, etc. on the other side... 580 was shut down... "What a bummer man!!"

It was the I-580 shootout!

Picked her up, hit to road, rode up and down Mines, not a soul out there (well, one rider). We had a BLAST! Perfect weather, not too hot, she is following up pretty good, getting her groove on on her BMW GS650.

We stop for lunch, chill in the sun. It's now 5:30PM and I have to go home. I try to get on 580 figuring it's cleared up by now... NOOOO!! I don't know Oakland very well so I follow traffic to the next on ramp figuring 580 will be open once we pass the incident... NOOOOOOOO!!!

WTF!! They completely shut down the highway!! Still no idea why thy need to close all the on ramps AFTER the incident?!?!!? I find my way to the 80 on ramp and finally I'm on my way to SF.

I'm just glad we had a good ride as I cross over the Bay bridge, enjoying the view. I get to my neighborhood, slow down for stop and... GONE... engine stalls.

I think, no biggie, the dealer warned me that Ducati's tend to have engine stall every once in a while. Try to start it again... NOTHING. It's firing up but nothing...

I know I have enough gas as I filled up before leaving Oakland. The engine doesn't wanna start. I pull over, kick stand it, remove my gear, let it cool for a bit. People stop by asking me if I need help, if I have gas, etc. Pretty cool.
After 5 mins, still nothing. I can hear the starter desperately trying to fire up the engine but NADA!!!

Maaan I'm bumped and quite pissed but I also have a smile on my face thinking I'm only ONE FREAKING BLOCK from my parking garage!!!! :teeth
I start pushing the bike then roll down the street to my parking garage and walk home to tell the tale of a seriously strange day!

P.s. :2cents on what could cause this???

"I think, no biggie, the dealer warned me that Ducati's tend to have engine stall every once in a while."

This was a joke right? I'd love to see this case on Judge Judy if they refuse fix it. :rofl

...but seriously, I hope they step up and find the problem

Voltage regulators have been known to overheat on the new ***8 4 valve ducs. Believe there was a recall in place

i cant belive no ones asked the most important question yet :facepalm

The stalling issue may not be the cause...

Take a look at the battery connections - some were a bit loose from the factory. Also, what is the voltage indicated for the battery on your screen? You probably have Battery Tender - if not, get one, you will need it. The electronics package sucks a lot of juice. When you get it to the dealer, be sure to ask about the voltage regulator - like EEL said - they have had issues...

Good luck and keep us posted...

Bike is on its way to the dealer... Will keep you guys posted but thanks for the input, I'll make sure to bring it all up when I talk to them.

Yeah, what's the most important question?? :|

Thanks fort the link, mine is a 2010 tho...

True. but ducati has a tendency to use parts from their scrap bin that shouldnt be used.

Its a sad fact but its been common place. I dont know if you've heard about all the rocker arm flaking issues back in the days of the 748, 998's. Bad batches of rocker arms kept popping up for the next couple of years in newer model monster S4r's even after the 748/998 series was discontinued.

If its a new bike its under warranty anyways. Just get it to a reputable dealer and it should be no cost to you.

Yeah, I read abt the bad rockers... I can't see why it wouldn't be fixed under warranty and it better be!
I've been told by the tow-driver that Ducati uses a plastic connector inside the fuel tank where they used/should use a metal one and it tends to let the hose to disconnect...

Wait and see!!

P.s. Yeah, she is HAWT!! (and married :teeth )

Like that's ever stopped anyone before. (Espurshully barfers!)
Pics or GTFO!

The current R6's sometimes have stalling issues after high-heat conditions/shutting down while still hot; finally happened to me for the first time couple weeks ago when I rode with the parents upvalley...on their harleys....bike was 200°+ for a majority of the ride....stalled on me after we ate and went to ride home....definitely makes me think there is a correlation between the two.

Yeah, I'm sure high temperature does contribute... I got stuck for at least 10-15mins in dead stop traffic and engine temp going to 215F. I should know more by the end of the day!

Well, the tow driver was right... Fuel line popped off of the fuel pump! Fixed under warranty and there is a recall on other 1198's and Streetfighters.

So all 1198's and Streetfighters owners out there, I suggest you get in touch with your dealer to check this potential issue and fix it before you get stranded!
