Fellow Rider Recovery Help

Hey all,

my dear friend Jade was T-boned by a left-turner last Monday. Right now I'm at highland with her while we wait to learn the fate of her left foot.

If there's any way you can help with her recovery and cost of living costs, that'd be awesome; she will not be able to work for a while to come.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Marisa

That suuuuucks. Please keep us updated on her condition. I'm also down to go visit her, loan her my pegleg, etc. Of course, thanks to me, the podiatry docs at Highland really know their stuff about motorcycle-induced foot injuries!

I really hope they're able to save her foot.

Following. Thanks for the link. Heal up, Pirate Cap'n Jade! And Phreddiva--thank you for being a support person.

When I wrecked in 2013 I had an amazing group of loved ones and dear friends who helped make it better. From the folks who got kicked out of Highland for giggling too loudly after visiting hours to the folks who brought me pie to my sweetheart who held my bedpan, it was utterly humbling.

Support people keep the universe turning for the wounded one. Thank you.

I think Rex and I have a bit of experience in this area. Please don't hesitate to ask if there's anything we may be able to do for help.

Lots of connections in the repairs, legal, and insurance front.

Cheers to your mate.

Hi all - thanks for being in touch. Her left leg was amputated (below the knee, thankfully) on Wednesday. She's still at Highland but has been moved out of the step-down unit. We've got a fundraiser going and are hoping to get her transferred to Alta Bates if she needs to spend much more time recovering away from home.

She's in good spirits, the pain is sometimes manageable and sometimes off the charts, and she's a bit delirious. It's hard to watch but, when my husband came with me to visit yesterday, she was super-happy to hear that her bike was in our bike yard and may, once again at some point, be rideable.

Thanks for your support, you guys. I figure that, when she's out, we'll have so many more questions...

Yeah, time at the Highland Hotel counts against your time in purgatory, I thought I heard the pope say...

May the pain ease and she be able to start healing. Sounds like she has an epic support team and an off-the-charts sense of humor, which helps. And oh man, do I know about the terror of post-anesthesia pain fog, aphasia, poorly-managed pain, and opiates...may the worst of that be past. Good on you guys for sticking with her.

When stuff eases up a bit, I HIGHLY recommend talking to BARF member ThumperX. She is a great human being, and she used to be an insurance adjuster, so she knows the insurance company processes and policies very well. Y'all have a copy of the police report yet?

Fantastic; thank you!
I definitely, for sure, don't have a copy of the police report that says "draft" all over it.

How's Jade's recovery going? Does she need any support in terms of grocery runs, cooking, trips to doc appointments?

Hey there! She is doing ok... it's now at the maintenance and "how life is going to look" point, which is less emergency-oriented and, in many ways, more frustrating.

The page is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1019783614701916/

and she's responding to offers for help directly... so thank you!

Some prosthetic companies clinicians take part in amputee support groups. Hanger Clinic, formally known as Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics is one of the leading P&O companies in the states with offices all around. Most of the offices have a prosthetist who go to or even run support groups for their patients, and people who don't even go there. I'd highly recommend her finding a good amputee support group to see what life will be like from here on and what to expect with different insurance companies. Also, just knowing there are a ton of great technologies out there that can truly enhance daily life.
(I only mention Hanger because I work out of the Roseville office). Wherever she goes, finding a support group is a true encouraging step in facing what's to ahead. Prayers for her, her family and friends.
