Motorcycle/Bicycle mix-up on Skyline in Oakland on Sunday?

It was reported that around 10:45am on Sunday, a bicycle rider was "pushed over" by a motorcycle rider between Robert's Park and Chabot Observatory, Skyline Blvd, Oakland. It is claimed that the bicycle rider needed ambulance transport. Does anyone know the real story? Did the moto-rider go down?

Unfortunately, it probably happened. Bicyclist, while irritating sometimes, usually get the shitty end of the stick from motorcyclists when push comes to shove. I have seen many bicyclists rudely block traffic. I have seen many motor cyclists pass them unsafely and too close.

lots of times bicycle riders and motorcycle riders go out to the same roads on the same days for the same purpose. there should be respect given all around.
it has to start somewhere, so i for one drop the negativity and tend to slow down or even wave to cyclists that cross my path. eventually we could see a positive change in behavior and attitude.

There needs to be respect on both sides - and, quite frankly, a clue on both sides. Speaking as someone who likes two wheels with and without motors, there are some clueless people out there in and on every type of transportation.

If this is a true story, that is f'n messed up.

Shame on the rider if he knocked down a bicyclist on purpose. I hope he gets what's coming to him if caught.

The reprecussion of this incident might be: The bicyclist probably drives a car, and the next time he is driving around, he's going to think about hitting ANY motorcycle rider off the road (I hope he doesn't though). Great.

People's need to calm down a bit, and think off the consequences of their actions.

Posted on the UC Berkeley Cycling Club list

The following was posted to the Cal Cycling list Sunday.

Today a friend in my graduate program was riding Skyline with 4 or 5 other riders. They were headed towards Redwood from Tunnel Rd. and had just crested the last small climb before the big decent to the light at the Skyline / Joaquin Miller intersection. Apparently a motorcyclist, for an unknown reason, approached the riders who were riding in two lines, came up next to my friend, grabbed his shoulder and physically pushed him off the road. Experienced riders in a group, they were ascending the last rise with a good deal of speed, so my friend went down pretty hard.

I was riding Skyline solo, and came upon the scene as the ambulance pulled away, so all of this information came from the other eyewitness riders, one of whom is a Berkeley professor.

Thankfully, I just found out that my friend is, for the most part, ok. He suffered 4 fractures, two in his collarbone, and two in his shoulder. The other riders didn't get a good look at the motorcycle rider, or his license plate so they didn't have much to tell the police, other than the motorcyclist was on a red and black sports bike and had a matching red and black outfit and helmet.

I'm still having a hard time comprehending what this motorcyclist did. By all accounts, there was no oncoming traffic in the other lane, and there was plenty of room to get around the bikers even in the proper lane. Considering the fact that the motorcyclist didn't stop, it sounds like it was a clear act of aggression. Fortunately my friend was wearing a helmet.

I don't know if there is a lesson to be learned here, because this act was so violent and random, other than, watch out for aggressive drivers and motorcyclists, and wear a helmet. This is a long shot, but if you see a motorcyclist that matches the description I've posted, watch out, and if they act aggressively, please pass along any info you can to me or the police.

OMG! That description is of me????? Red Daytona 675 and red and black Frank Thomas leathers. I guess I won't be getting any love from the bicyclists anymore Seriously, it wasn't me and that kind of aggression (if true) is out of hand in any setting.

The following was posted by Piedmont Pines resident Nancy Levey
yesterday. Anyone having any information that could help identify the
motorcyclist please contact MSIC by replying to this message.

"Today, around 10:45am a bicycle rider was PUSHED over by a motorcycle
rider between Robert's Park and Chabot Observatory. My son's friend was
on her way over to our house when her father pulled his car over to
assist a downed bike rider (he is a nurse). The wife of the bicycle
rider stated that a motorcyclist had reached out with his hand and
pushed her husband over while driving by. He had a concussion and might
possibly have a neck or spine injury. An ambulance came to pick him up.

My son's friend's father did not get any personal information for us to
follow up on his health. It is appalling that someone would
intentionally hurt a bike rider. I just thought I'd let you all know
about this incident."
