LOL... Im sure most have seen the bubb rubb and whistle tip vid... just saw this new addition in the CVC.

27150.3. (a) A person may not modify the exhaust system of a motor
vehicle with a whistle-tip.
(b) A person may not operate a motor vehicle if that vehicle's
exhaust system is modified in violation of subdivision (a).
(c) A person may not engage in the business of installing a
whistle-tip onto a motor vehicle's exhaust system.
(d) For purposes of subdivisions (a) and (c), a "whistle-tip" is a
device that is applied to, or is a modification of, a motor vehicle'
s exhaust pipe for the sole purpose of creating a high-pitched or
shrieking noise when the motor vehicle is operated.

Anyone ever scratched for it? I think it would be hilarious... prob a steep fine too since it is new legislation. :rofl

haha I've been in Oakland for about a year now and I'm surprised I haven't heard anyone with a whistle tip yet. Then again I'm probably on the wrong side
 
So if you have a wistle tip which is also a cool fan looking like a turbine blade, it would be OK because it has a second purpose?

I actually had the pleasure of writing this one.. as it turns out, I heard it and located the vehicle, a convertable 60's model Chevy, but just as it was parking in the Jack in the Box lot. I went over and looked at it and spoke with the driver brielfy. I warned him it was illegal and he removed it right then and there. Then about a week later (this was the summer of 2005), I heard it again and he also had his stereo blaring (in violation of 27007 CVC). I pulled him over and cited him for 27150.3 (non-correctable as a persistant violation), 27007 and 24004 CVC (a 1 point moving violation).

Then to top things off, he signed his name "Fuck You Pig" :wtf so I amended my citation to add 40504(b) CVC violation (a misdemeanor, for the false signature on the citation) and had the citation charged by the DA in criminal court. Then he shows up and pisses off the judge and gets booked into the jail for contempt of court and had pot in his posession which he brought into the jail at booking.

Needless to say, they threw the book at him. He ended up on 2 years supervised probation after serving 30 days in jail (on a 45 day sentence) and $1200+/- fine, then about 6 months later, he violated probation and went back to jail, there he got into a gang fight (he was a gang-banger after all) that landed him in the Q (San Quentin State Prison), where he sits today.

So, use a whistle tip.. go to State Prison! :rofl

i haven't heard about those since like 2002. i lived right next to a freeway in oakland for years (still do, actually) and i never actually heard one of those despite how popular they supposedly were.

on a side note, that bub rub dude is actually a pretty hot driver. there's a youtube video of him & lil sis trying to outrun some cops on a freeway (i assume here in the bay) and the cops tap his car at least twice causing him to spin out, but then he recovers w/o hesitation. they only catch him after he goes down an embankment, and even then, looks like he could almost have recovered from that too.

obviously unnecessary and reckless endangerment, and the guy sure comes across as a jackass on the whistle tip vid, but usually dudes like that are all hat no cattle. not defending him, but i am impressed with his driving.

Ya Ive seen the vid but figured people were just goofin around and named that chase vid after him. The driver in there is decent though, and the car looks similar to Lil Sis's car in the whistle tip video hahahah.
 
You know, based on what they showed in the video, it wouldn't take much to manufacture say 100 of these. Punch them out with a drill press and have them just long enough for a snug fit in the diameter of common exhaust pipes.

Then at night go around the neighborhood and install them in all parked cars with a punch and mallet. You wouldn't even need to weld them. It would take longer to walk to the next car than it would to actually install it.

Wouldn’t that be neat :)
