I did about 1200 miles over 4 days in the Sierras between Murphy and Markleeville exploring almost everything ridable and unridable in the area. I was on my DR650 with street tires, but I hit stuff guys with knobbies would shy away from.

I covered everything: high speed sweepers, paved goat trail, graded dirt/gravel, rutted/rocky two track, single track, slickrock, water crossings, rock gardens, jumps, etc. I got stopped a few times due to lack of traction up some hills, but I'm going back soon with knobbies to finish off those sections.
 
I lost a pannier bag on the way up. Fortunately, there was nothing of value in it. Tools, toiletries, shoes, pants. Who needs pants? I had to be careful of flatting since my tools were now gone.

If you see one of these yellow bags between SF and Markleeville, grab it for me. :teeth

Hwy 4 had shit all over it. Literally. Cow shit everywhere. This stuff is so slippery, they should make teflon from it. Nothing like railing into a corner, hitting the apex ready to get on the throttle and finding a fresh lump of cowshit in your line!
