Hi guys, I am just really confused what to buy out of the two. I first was thinking of getting a ready ramp coz it can be used as a bed extender also for my truck, but then i don't really need a bed extender.

The other option I am thinking of is the motorcycle carrier, something like this one:

http://www.discountramps.com/smc-600-motorcycle-hauler.htm

If I use a carrier/hauler like this, I can still use all the space on the truck bed to keep other stuff that I want and let the bike rest on its own carrier.

What do you guys think, I need to buy a piece very soon.

go with the carrier.are you still living in the city?you can try mine.let me know....:)

Hello, I'm in the city yes.. just that I am moving to the east coast and planning on driving my truck, with my household stuff and the bike.

Is it pretty convenient to use the carrier? And when we drive it for long distances, should I be scared of the tie downs going loose or something?? I was thinking that when I drive for 3 days, I'll be constantly worried if something happened to the bike.

Well with the carrier the law sees it as if you're pulling a trailer or something of that sort so your speed limit is limited to 55mph. as if you put your bike on the pick up you can carry more speed. This is why I ended up buying the ramp/bed extender.

oh lord, I didn't think about that. This is so sad

i think thats up to the LEO

i'd post in the LEO forum and ask but i dont think it would caunt as a trailer because it dosnt have wheels...

more of an extention to the truck if anything...

but i'd DEFIANLLY wire it for trailer lights just to be on the safe side.. they cant ticket you fro having extra lights

I agree, plus the 55mph law is pretty much only in Cali

Yeah but then.. my stuff at home that i am moving.. home theater system, clothes, this and that, this and that.. like 10 boxes.

I posted in the LEO thread before I read this so I didn't know that you were moving cross country.

Here's another alternative for you;
Depending on your budget this bike transport company seems to be great. A friend of mine has used them on several occasions. They moved his bike from Sacramento, CA to Daytona, FL for $550 and he said they were really good and very easy to work with.

Right.. i was thinking of doing that too... ship the bike and drive my home belongings in my truck. It's just that I am thinking if it is worth spending 550 on shipping when I can buy my shipping equipment for 500 and use it in future also, if needed.

I ordered the dirtbike verison from that site and I am very happy with it. I put the ATV in the bed. I was scared at first then I watched a vid with a jeep hauling ass over dirt whoops and was sold. I drive the posted limit.

I have the AMC-400 from that same company (aluminum carrier, 400 pound capacity) and I wouldn't hesitate to drive cross-country with a bike on it. I bought some inexpensive LED tail lights on ebay and wired them to my trailer plug to make sure I had visible tail lights, brake lights, and turn signals. I also put some red reflective tape on the back and sides so it's even easier to see.

P.S. I replaced all the cheap hardware on my carrier with grade 8 stuff because I didn't trust the crap that came with it.

i'd bet you can trim that down and squeeze the bike on there...:laughing

This ones cheaper
