Just got the news from the horses mouth...RFR is not scheduled to open in 2010 :(

To all of our drivers, riders and supporters due to the low activity and the reduced revenue this year we will be closing the road course indefinitely while we restructure the business over the winter. In the past we have been able to keep the staff and maintenance up through the off season, mainly by revenue generated during the peak season. We have also been fortunate in the past to have winter bookings with manufacturers, and media companies to help support operations in the off season. We have no winter bookings this year. As everyone knows our bookings this year were down as well as event turnout, resulting in much less income than needed to carry us through the off season. We thank you for your support through the years, and hope for the best in the future.

10/13/2009 - RUMORS RUMORS RUMORS
We have had more calls emails and concerns over the rumors of us closing than for anything else before. Funny how people only seem to care when they might lose something. What is amazing to me is how many have taken these rumors for truth and not bothered to ask us directly, for the those that want to know Here is the 411.

No, we are not closed
No, we have not filed for BK protection
No, revenue is not up
Yes, revenue is down (like every other business in the world)
Yes, we have had to lay people off (what business hasn't)
Yes, we have problems with our lenders (who doesn't right now)
Yes, we are working through those problems (that is why we are still open)
Yes, we owe money
Yes, we are paying it down (that is why we are still open)
Yes, we need to spend more on advertising, repairs, etc (SEE ABOVE)

The fact is people have been saying this stuff for more than a year now, and yet we are still here and operating. Stop believeng everything you hear and start asking your own questions like some have. Get yourself informed. Those that did have been out having fun on the track with out you.

Not to be rude, but everybody says they want RFR around, but they complain about the cost and then don't come out regularly. Riders/Drivers and other supporters need to realize that we may go away because people need to stop talking and start showing that they want a race track here. Our last Bens test day ($100) had 4 riders at it what kind of indication does that tell you as a business owner.

As it stands right now we are open but will only be doing tests this winter by pre-paid reservations with a 1K dollars minimum (no just showing up to the track when you like). We do plan to open next year and are currently taking reservations from track day providers.

However people need to show there support not just talk about it. That means bringing new people with you to the track and talking about it daily at work or with friends to help raise general awareness. Walk down the street and ask 10 people if they know about RFR, you will get a lot of people that say they don't. If RFR is going to make it every one of you drivers, riders, and fans needs to be out there helping on the streets everyday.

You say you really want a track, then get out and help build support and build awareness for it, make it your cause.

That post seems like it might just be a winter thing. However, I also heard from a trackday provider that they (RFR mgmt.) aren't scheduling dates in 2010. :(

I was thinking of giving up trackdays next year and getting back into competitive shooting. I guess the decision has been made for me.
 
The RUMORS post was probably to ward off a mass exodus. They had been rumored to be close to foreclosure for some time, and were looking for ways to keep it open. If you're looking for money, you don't post that you are closing the doors. It's a shame they didn't find the investors they were looking for in time.

The Sierra Sportbike Association (SSA) had been doing it's best to help drum up support for the track, and to purchase track time in an effort to help them out. Apparently it was not enough. But...we are not finished! The club will be meeting soon to discuss ways that we can still try and help keep RFR open.
 
Let us know if there's anything we can do to help. I only got to ride there once, but I absolutely loved it. Yes, it's a long way out there, but totally worth the drive for me.
 
good luck and keep up the good fight! RFR isn't one of my favorite tracks, but if it's yours, i feel your pain.
 
Yeah - definitely let us know. I can see what the Utah Sportbike Association can do (though it seems everything now is already in slumber).

One of the feedback items from racers that we have received is that it would be nice if there were a few less turns and a more open layout to increase speeds. If we ever want to get any circuit races here to drive support, this might have to be addressed.

I could care less about the speed of the track. The layout is great, they just need to get rid of the minefield of bumps throughout the course!
