I had purchased a policy back in early September with Progressive for my 2005 R1. On October 12, 2009 I discovered my bike stolen from my aunts apartments in downtown San Jose. BTW this is the second bike I had stolen from the same area :(. Any how I reported it to the police and such and made a claim with Progressive. Fast forward to today and still no resolution has came. Almost 8 months and when I call them and ask whats going on with my claim I get the "We are still investigating" routine. I filed a complaint already with the insurance board a few months ago but that did nothing to help the situation at all. They brought me in for two recorded interviews already and just send me a notice in the mail every month on the 12th saying we are still investigating your claim! Anyone have any insight on what I can do here? As far as I know in California there is no time limit on handling claims.

I think that Progressive is giving me the runaround because I was hit by a drunk driver a few years ago and the driver didn't have insurance and I sued Progressive for 15k plus the damages to my bike. Any insight would be great, thanks

So, you sued your own insurer....and stayed with them?

:wtf

:laughing

BTW, they are all the same.

LOL I know right :(...I had no choice because the guy didn't have insurance so my uninsured motorist policy had to be used.

:wtf You had to sue your insurer to use your uninsured motorist coverage?

I'm guessing there's more to the story. At least the lawsuit one. Maybe both.

I've never heard of anyone having a claim delayed on a stolen bike. If my bike were stolen and I didn't have a check with 3-4 weeks, my lawyer would take over.

BTW, my one insurance claim in my life was a bike I totaled and Progressive paid me out immediately and more than I even paid for the bike. Their service was fantastic and I'd use them today, but their rates aren't competitive.

Maybe they suspect some sort of shenanigans since you lost your bike twice in the same area?

Sue em again :( sorry to hear about your bike that hella sucks. And for the record, Progressive charges over twice what State Farm does, and they don't pay out. I swerved to avoid a deer in the road and wrecked my bike, tried to file a claim, adjuster came out to look at it and goes "well I don't see any evidence you hit a deer so we can't cover you." I was like no shit sherlock I swerved to AVOID hitting it and went off the road. "Well, it would have been better if you'd hit the deer, then we'd have evidence like fur or blood or something...as it is you could have just been riding too fast or something so we can't cover you because we don't know for sure." :thumbdown fuck progressive.

FWIW, State Farm screwed me hard 15 years ago.

They're all the same.

Get the cheapest non-totally ghetto (no Allstate :laughing) policy you can, and set aside the savings in a legal fund.

The only reason I went with Progressive was because they had the cheapest motorcycle policy for me at the time. I got the policy through Eastwood. Yeah they were pissed that it was the 2nd bike and they said why would you even have your bike there. I told them well I bought full coverage for a reason! im a little reluctant to get a lawyer because they will chew up a lot of whatever I get in a settlement.

Well, as I can see right now you are not even being offered any kind of settlement and your claim is probably gone to “Investigation Department”… Brace yourself up and get a lawyer ASAP, trust me, you will be much better off…

If anybody has served in the military (or your parents) you can sign up with USAA. They provide excellent coverage and really take care of you.

I had an animal strike a few years back and the gal I worked with said, "We'll take care of everything Mr. Brown, your rental car is waiting for you at XYZ. We will let you know when your vehicle is ready to pick up." AND that was it.

And the few smaller claims I have filed since have been very easy. You don't have to fight them, and that is worth a few extra bucks...

Good luck, hope this gets resolved!

yep i'm going to take a guess that the delay is a result of this. not sure they'd be able to trace your parts for sale but i think there prob is some suspicion due to the circumstance. any delay means either 1-they are trying to figure out what the payout should be or 2-they are questioning whether it's insurance fraud.

otherwise, standard procedure would be to pay you out pretty immediately from my limited experience w/insurance. the time when my car got total-ed (granted i had AAA and it was not a moto), they pretty immediately towed the car to their location, got an estimate on damages, called it total-ed and stated the amount i would receive.

I think you suck at securing your bike so this shit doesn't happen.

just because one has insurance doesn't mean I would leave it in a alley with teh key in it.

oh and I think Stan may be on to something here.....

I have absolutely no problems with Progressive. Of course, in the seven years I have been with them I have never had to make a claim. Coincidence?

"On October 12, 2009 I discovered my bike stolen from my aunts apartments in downtown San Jose"

So you don't live there, is that correct?

Maybe they suspect something is amiss due to your parts for sale:

^^ on the GSXR, it seems you're partying out the bike.

I did live in that complex about 6 months before the bike was stolen. What would my spare parts from my GSX-R that I had 2+ years ago have anything to do with my R1? Ive scoured ebay, craigslist and other forums for parts but its hard to distinguish what parts would be mine. I had Carrozzeria wheels and the custom one-off exhaust I got from a member here on BARF.

Well you would be pretty stupid if you left your keys in your bike unattended. It was parked in the visitors parking lot. I don't have the luxury of parking my bike in a garage. I USED to chain it to the pole but the management said they would cut my lock if I didn't remove it because it was not allowed. The visitor parking is some what hidden other than the fact that when there are Sharks games everyone parks there. The bike was taken between 5-930 PM which I find very unusual since most thefts occur in the very late night early AM. The bike still has not been found and honestly even if it was found I do not want it back. Who the fuck knows what they did to my bike. I would really like them to just buy me another R1 with the same mods I had done to my stolen one and I will be content with that. Fuck Progressive enough said

Now that last part is just plain funny. That ain't the way insurance works.

Well you've said you had a second bike stolen in the same complex, right? That and your stolen R1 (within a month of buying their policy), as well as suing Progressive years back may have painted a bad picture of you on their end.

When you signed up for insurance this time--did you put your Aunt's address as your primary residence?

USAA does motorcycle insurance thru Progressive now, told me the quote would be the same ($1200/year for liability only), but denied me because I had only had my M1 for 2 years, not the 3 they require.

Now they keep sending me things in the mail saying "now available in leather" advertising their moto coverage. I haven't called them to find out if they've rescinded the 3-year requirement or what.

But I'm happily paying State Farm $180/yr for better coverage. :ride

(All my other insurance needs are handled by USAA at the moment).
