Delta Day Ride - BARF

I just wanted to share this ride I did today in the Sacramento River delta. I'll leave off the Fairfield part.

I've done versions of this a couple of other times. It's a nice change from the usual mountain twisties and coastal excursions that we do so much around here. There are even some gravel/dirt parts and a ferry ride!

This is Randall Island Road going North along the East side of the river.

Southbound on South River Road, the West side of the river.

South River Road again. I wanted to show here what makes a river ride so enjoyable... riding on top of the levee with the water on one side and lush farm land on the other.

Holland Road.

CA-84 Southbound here is outstanding riding, with really fun twisties along the water.

When I got down to 220 on 84, there were signs saying to detour on 220 because 84 was closed. I proceeded down 84 to see how far I could get. Luckily, it was not closed at all, just a bit rough because they were working on the pavement.

How much does the ferry cost?
About how long did the section shown in the map take you to do?

The ferry is free. Your highway tax dollars at work.

But have a Plan B in case it is broken down or something.

It was about 3 hours, including the stops for photos. You might want to allocate some extra time for a lunch stop - there are restaurants in Walnut Grove.

Delta rides can be fun - unless they are super windy. Now that I'm reading all these ride reports, and finally catching up on housework since I finished my big ride report from August/September - I'm finding myself wondering if I can manage a 3 day trip midweek somewheres if it's not rainy....

I can almost always do that - I'm 100% telecommute so I can do my work whenever I want to do it.
