Ok BARF, I'm super bored again so heres another review on Go Cruise Throttle control mentioned at:
http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=361620&highlight=throttle
I ordered it from : http://www.thecycleguys.com/default.aspx?PageID=120&CategoryID=27&ProductID=199
for $26.60 after shipping. It came quickly, well packaged and no weird charges on my credit card. I got 7/8 inch small one.
The bike: I ride a 09 ninja Zx6r with stock handle grip.
Purpose: To be able to switch hands on long highway rides
The test:
Since today was the only non-raining weather since I got the TC (throttle control), I went out for a short ride to test it out.
First impression: As I started at local streets, I tried cruising at 40mph. I set the control and let go of my hands. It felt very awkward as it felt like it was driving itself. I tried moving the bike by leaning, but I felt like I was going to fall off, so I held my hands on the gas tank. But then again I had to hold it really hard to push it what way and I felt like an idiot. I realized that the TC doesn't hold well at low speeds. Anything under 35mph in any gear doesn't seem to hold in place, it just keeps decreasing 1mph every couple seconds. Maybe due to the larger vibration at lower speeds.
So then I went on the highway (280N from Cupertino to Palo Alto. I realized this was a bad highway due to the elevation and road bumpiness. Not to mention the heavy wind today). I basically tested it at 2 different speeds, 65mph and 75 mph.
65mph: anything under second gear does not hold well.
75mph: anything under third gear does not hold well.
One thing to note: I thought the TC would be like a cruise control, but its not =P. It will hold at one speed if 1) you are at a long straightaway with no wind factor 2) no elevation difference. From going uphill and downhill with wind, there were almost a 15mph difference.
Another thing to note: Shorty levers doesn't work too well with this. If you look at the picture below, you can see that the TC is really close to my fingers and does push my middle finger to the knob of the lever.
Long term: I dont know if will wear down the handle grip over time.
Overall impression: It does as it advertises, but didn't live up to my fantasy imagination. I had a dream of a sunny day going up the 9 with the TC taking every turn at 75mph and passing the noob cages without using my hands. Dream destroyed. Worth the $26.60? I don't know, I'll let you guys know after a longer boring highway ride.
Third thing to note: After the ride, I was going home on local roads. I set the TC at 40mph and leaned back to stretch my back... BAD IDEA! BADBADBADBADBADBAD. I almost fell off my bike when a small gust of wind hit me from the front. Imagine if I were to fall off, the bike would just keep on going and going and going and going and.....
