Did any riders witness my accident this morning?

Hey folks,

I know this is a long-shot, but here goes nothing. I was heading westbound on the 580 on my CB1000, splitting between lanes 1 and 2 before the carpool lane starts toward the Bay Bridge. A Lexus sedan changed lanes from 1 to 2, signaling as they made the change. I braked but couldn't stop in time, made a sizeable dent in their bumper and went down. A rider splitting behind me helped roll my bike to the shoulder. Driver and I exchanged information.

I'm looking for a witness to corroborate the statement to my insurance provider. Here's a pic of my bike: http://i.imgur.com/BIywPl6.jpg

Mostly cosmetic damage but it wouldn't start (had it towed home). I have minor cuts on my left shin but am OK. It could've been much worse had I been traveling faster.

Glad you are ok.

A lot of cars have dash cams these days, maybe an ad on Craigslist might get some attention, never know. There are probably 2-3 car owners out there with video. Check youtube, people post that kind of stuff.

Doesn't help this time but consider a bike cam, bike starts and cam rolls video, never know.
 
Thanks, that's a great idea! Sadly, I have a GoPro but I wasn't wearing it today (kicking myself for that one).
 
I love the CB1000 - I remember (roughly) an excerpt from when Cycle World reviewed it in 92/93, "... the build quality on this bike is such that it will likley look brand new 25 years from now."

Ha, I guess that's true. Up until today she was pretty much spotless.
 
It'll probably start once you get it home. The carbs flood and sulk when it lies down.

I hope it isn't too badly damaged. I've had mine 13 years and love it. Would hate to see it die.

Oh ... oh yeah and I'm glad to hear you are mostly OK too ;-)

It did start once I got it home. I'll see what the shop says, it looks like it's leaking some coolant now.

A couple of years ago. a stranger started chatting to me about mine in a parking lot. He was convinced it was a brand new bike.

So yeah, they hold up well.

Best of luck, brother. It is hard.. same thing happened to me, but instead of making contact I avoided the car and did a low side slide on right fairing. Been riding the same bike again for over a year now after fixing it. Do not let it rattle you. Get back up and ride asap. Did you have a GoPro or dashcam? If you did, be careful of resident doctors... they deleted my GoPro helmet cam footage. I had to end getting a attorney to fix everything legally.
 
Pro tip: When lanesplitting do not get between a vehicle and an open space in the adjacent lane. Maybe you just figured this out, but I know others have not.

Very much this. If I come up to a car with a space next to it, I'll either wait until they've caught up with traffic or goose it fully into the center of the adjacent lane before resuming the splitting position. The second method still puts you in the danger zone for a second, and I wouldn't do it on a weak bike or a strong bike outside of its torque zone.
