We recently saw a thread about some frustration one of our members had because he could not get a tow. I chimed in on the AMA is much more than that and your membership helps riders in many ways.
Advocacy for Riders Rights and Access to Riding Areas is at the top of the list for me personally. I said I would come back and explain a bit more. So here you go.
YOUR AMA
A Few Of The Things The Association Does For You
The above is a good list of the what they are all about.
Here are a few actions they have jumped into in that may affect you:
• Was active in getting lane splitting passed and other Bills that affect street riders.
• Was active in getting SB249 OHV Program bill fixed and passed.
• Is working with CARB on the Red/Green sticker program revisions.
• Conducted a campaign to help defeat the Carnegie Bill (S.B. 1316), which where the expansion was trying to be stopped.
• Supported the State Motorcyclist Rally at the Capitol.
• Participated in the CHP Lane Splitting Tips with myself and the other CMSP Advisory Committee Members.
• Adopted position statements on motorcyclist profiling and on automated vehicles. (https://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/About-The-AMA/AMA-Board-of-Directors/Position-Statements)
There are a lot more Nationally. The E-15 gas crap is a big one for me.
The support a lot of grass roots efforts too... like the ones I do. They walked me around the Capitol in Sac when we were informing your State Reps on AB 51 (Lane Splitting Bill)
You can sign up for Action Alerts like I am to get current info on things that will affect us. I share those with you often and that is part of our grass roots effort as AMA OM/C #0001
They sit on the CA Motorcycle Safety Committee (SHSP) and the CMSP Advisory Committee. They are a member of the FIM the world governing body for competition and CAP which is the public affairs commission, which is world level issues for motorcyclist around the world. (safety standards etc) and is very engaged with NHTSA on motorcycle technology requirements.
They will be attending the SMSA Conference this week and hopefully catching my presentation with the SFMTA on the Vision Zero SF work we collaborated on.
Want to know about great roads around California and the Country here ya go or maybe just riding info. Or maybe the History of your sport and the people that have left a huge impact on it. BARF has a plaque in the History Museum... someday I have to go see it.
As some of you know I was lucky enough to win an award from them last year and they hand delivered the award to the Quincy Rally and joined in the fun too.
I first joined the AMA as a MX Racer back in the 80's and continued as I went road racing. Maybe you want to join me in supporting the best advocate for our sport there is. The AMA. I started as a racer and stayed as a motorcyclist.
We have a lot of AMA members here. My guess is well over 200 and at least a dozen are life members like me.
If you decide to join you can have your number listed in your profile
