Fuel Overflow Tube Thingy.. Where does it go?

Just inside the gas cap on my F4i, is what appears to be an overflow ring & drainage hole. I had originally thought the hole just dripped down into the tank, but upon closer inspection today i see a metal pipe leading straight down through the tank. Where does it go? I'm concerned because after the recent heavy rain, water appears to be gathering in the overflow ring and I think it's not properly draining.. Should I be concerned?

It either goes to the overflow canister underneath the bike or just out the hose at the bottom. I'm hoping that Honda made it so that any water that got in that ring would not make it to the engine.

Sounds logical, but now my concern is with why it doesn't seem to be draining on my bike. Guess i gotta take a closer look.

on my F2 i have the same thing, my overflow just goes out onto the ground.

On another note, how many hoses should be routed down through that little plastic bit at the bottom of the bike? I thought i remember there being at least 2 when i got the bike, now i only see 1. Strange. Oh well, I'll take a closer look tomorrow and figure it all out.

the hole is for when you have water, gas or excess fluid, mostly gas overfill, it drains into a small tube that empties out at the bottom of the bike. it won't drain into the tank, that's what the main hole is for. ;)

I had the same question when I had my F4i and looked it up (in my Honda Repair Manual)...

If you have a CA bike, that fuel overflow hose acts as both an overflow and vapor catch. It's routed down along the frame and into the EVAP canister sitting above the exhause header/muffler joint.

If you have a 49-state, I assume it just routes along the frame, straight to the ground.

Hope that helps...
