This is sorta for F4ichick so she can go bling bling...but does stock 954 chain fit the F4i without any mods? I'm under the impression it would, although you might have to take out some links...?

I would doubt it.
1) are they the same size 520, 525, 530???
2) do they have the same number of LINKS???
3) are you wanting to remove the chain from one bike and put it on another? If so aren’t the original chains continuos with no master link and have to be CUT off, thus once you do you have to TOSS it???

You dont have to toss a chain when you cut, just add new master link. Chains are cut to size even when new. The F4i has 108 links, and as long as the 954 has at least that many links and is the same pitch - ie 525 like the F4i, it should be ok.

Just cut to 108 and add a new link.

Yes, it looks like the stock 954 chain is a 530 which probably means new sprockets. So new question, should my stock sprockets work with the F4i to curtail the problem with the 530 chain? thanks again....

You would have to check the bolt pattern etc, and then consider gearing. Find an online resource to check sprocket teeth. If these were exactly the same (I doubt), you would also want to consider the extra weight of the 530 chain - a performance detractor. While not alot, it still is more weight. Most 600's go to the 520 for this very reason when swapping sprockets and a chain.

Seems like alot of work for a cosmetic only deal and possible performance detraction. Much easier to just buy a new chain for $100 and take 15 minutes to swap.

BTW - this seems rather silly. Why do you want to put your chain on F4i chicks bike :confused

thanks guys for all the info

and thanks RR for trying to get me some bling :teeth

Oakland, it was for no other reason than I said I wanted a gold chain, and RR has one that i could have for free but looks like too much work :(

Oh God - this should go into a special section under squidly :teeth

F4ichick - I just put a new DID O ring chain on weds before the SF Family meet. Took me 15 minutes.

BTW, its gold. Not that I chose gold, it was the only one in stock and cost just over $90.

If you really want one and need help putting in on, let me know.

I'm still reeling at the thought of all this thought/work for a little bling :laughing
