Horrific crash at Thunderhill today...RIP Matt Labbe

There was a horrific crash at Thunderhill today (4/8). Appeared as though a red Ducati 998 and its rider went right off the front straight at full speed and ended up three hundred feet up the embankment. Enloe copter flew in and (after what seemed a frighteningly long time, but I guess they were stabilizing him) finally transported him out. Last I had heard was that the guy was unconscious, and had a collapsed lung.

Unfortunately I've just received news that the rider, Matt Labbe of San Francisco, a personal friend of Lance and Linda, did not survive.

:rose

Condolences to Matt's family and friends.

I'm speechless.

Ouch, this really sucks.

I could have sworn I remember reading something from Lance once saying that if anything really serious happened at one of his trackdays, he would consider shutting it down.

:rose I wasn't there, but condolences to all the families and friends. I'm speechless, too. This is very sad news.

The worst part is that there isn't anything to hit after the front straight, it's just all uphill chopped up dirt runoff :wow

I guess it's a reminder that even when you wear full leathers and ride at a track (what most of us consider to be the best odds in terms of walking away from a crash), shit can still happen :(

I was there yesterday. They had him already in the chopper for quit some time before they took him out.

RIP my friend...:rip

RIP. My condolonces to all his loved ones and freinds. GP

Has this ever happened before at a trackday?

:(

Unfortunatly it has happened before. This kinda news makes me choke up because like zeefrenchspy said, we try and take as many danger factors out of the picture and these outcomes still occur.

R.I.P
