Help Needed: Doc Wong Hit and Thrown pretty far

SHIT.

Believe it or not, I'm writing this to you from my home, Sunday April 15, 2007

I need your help in finding the culprits that did this. Vehicle is an old Honda or Toyota (probably Honda) hatchback (I think) small, dirty grey/silver. With a BIG dent in the front from ramming into the rear end of my BMW R1100 RS. Part of the grille is missing (we found it on the street).

On this beautiful Sunday I had just finished doing the Doc Wong Riding Clinic as I have for over 14 years. Finishing off at Hwy 9 and Skyline, I rode to the Alice's 4 corners to hang out and chat for a bit before going home.

At around 4 PM, I go down Hwy 84 from the Alice's corner, hang a right on Portola Valley Road (aka Sandhill Road). There's about 4 cars ahead of me, so I'm just traveling at around 30 mph with the traffic. I check my rear view mirror and see a small dirty grey/silver hatchback behind me...no problem, we'er all traveling at the same speed.

So I'm just relaxed..and then BANG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hit from behind and HARD!

Sky -- Road -- Sky -- Road -- Sky -- Road, I try to stand...shit, I'm still going, Sky -- Road -- Sky -- Road.

I get up and I can see the car that rear ended me. I look at him (Mexican/South American looking), he looks at me and gasses it!!!! I scream and a witness after getting over the shock goes after him. We don't find him. My beemer is toast but the most important thing is that I'm relatively unharmed, except some bruises.

Paramedics arrive, Sherriffs arrive and they go looking for him, but do not find him.

I'll be leaving right after this e-mail to search for him as I think his car would have been disabled with all that front end damage.

I was astonished, from the point of impact, my bike ended up 150' feet away and I ended up 70' past that!

Please everyone be on the lookout for a dirty grey/silver Honda (old) hatchback (I think) vehicle with a big dent in the front of it. Call 911 and let them know you think you've spotted a vehicle that fits that description, do not confront the owners, let the police do that.

After over 500,000 miles of riding street, track days, dirt, etc, I've never had an injury (crashes, yes, but no injuries) and never have I had an altercation with a car.

Today I did and I'm hopping mad!

I am extremely glad you survived such a toss. Can't believe how much some people DON'T care about others. I will spread the word to everyone I know in hope of removing such scum off the road and delivering some justice in your hands.

People treat us like we're a car, and forget that we're as vulnerable as pedestrians.

Sorry about your bike but I'm glad you're OK. Another rider today up on I-80 wasn't so lucky.

Glad you are relatively OK. I have had close calls but never got hit like that.

Gads, Doc. I'm really glad you're OK. I too, can't even start to understand the mind that will knock a rider or pedestrian down and then take off.

While I wish the driver all manner of bad things, I'm glad it wasn't worse.

Back in '91 I got tagged from behind by hispanic driver #1 which caused me to hit car #2 driven by hispanic driver #2, Both hispanic drivers bailed, as much as it sucks, this is what we get for allowing the illegal alien problem to continue.
I came across hispanic driver #2 about a month later, his left arm wasnt working so well after meeting my helmet, when I swung it.........Once again he sped away.

And what's going to happen to him if he gets caught? You know he doesn't have insurance. So he gets deported and then is back here in a month with another car.

Good lord! Sorry to hear about your vehicular assault, and what a damn shame about the Beemer, but thankfully you're OK. I know some people who live up in that area, and I'll let them know about the silver honda. I hope they catch the rat bastard!

We're on it. There's no way he can hide. Can you give us more hint to the vehicle type. Like maybe a Corolla, or Civic, and approximately what period, 80's, 90's, 2000's?

The best possible outcome-- that you weren't seriously injured-- is what happened. Thank god for that.

Do you have possession of the grille? It should probably be turned over as evidence. I would snap a picture though, before turning it over to match it to online images of cars from that era to see if you can narrow the make/model.

Are you sure we wanna let the cops handle it? I say vigilante justice is warranted here. Well, not really, but I do think an ass-whoopin' is in order and the authorities probably won't step up.

Holy sh!t. Doc, you got hit and went down. If only the guy that hit you knew he hit one of the Jedi riders. His karma is gonna be bad, whether or not he/she is caught.

I'm just glad you're ok...I'm sorry to hear that your BMW is totalled though, i guess i'll always be able to remember it by the fond memories of it pulling on me out of the corners...

Either way, i'm glad you're ok, and i'll keep my eyes out for that car...bastard.
