We had such a good time doing this last year (see the old thread) that we're going to try to do this again every week or two.

The typical ride is Foothill road to Sunol, down Niles Canyon to Palomares Road, run Palomares the full length, then back to Pleasanton on the frontage road alongside the 580 freeway. Total ride is typically 45 minutes and we try to keep a medium pace. We usually stop for lunch after.

We have also made runs out to Highland Road and Collier Canyon east of Dublin and may occasionally take Calaveras Road both ways. We're a little bit flexible on the route.

It's mostly been OldFatGuy and myself, but others are welcome. Just let us know if you want to come along and try to be on time. We'll adjust the pace as necessary (or wait at a few critical spots if you're really slow).

Unless it's raining, the next ride is Tuesday, March 11. Meeting place is in front of Cycle Gear in Pleasanton at 11:45 a.m.

Future rides will be posted on this thread, so watch this space if you want to be notified of later rides.

I might be interested.

How long is the ride? What about Cops / traffic?

30 miles, 45 minutes.

There's some traffic on Foothill and pretty much always traffic in Niles Canyon. I don't remember ever spending very long behind anybody on Palmares Road. We have yet to encounter any police officers on one of these rides.

I don't know if I can make it tomorrow -- but I work right across the street from Cyclegear, and my shift starts at 12:30... I think I might be able to squeese in a ride one of the times, and show up a bit late to work.

Thanks to all who showed up for today's ride. We had six bikes along this time. Even though Niles Canyon was slow with traffic and construction, the rest of the loop was in very good condition and mostly traffic free. Lunch afterwards for the four who didn't have to get immediately back to work was also a good time to get to know each other better.

Watch this thread for announcements of future rides, which should average about every two weeks.

I love Niles Canyon. That's actaully a really nice, short, tristy road to ride. If you guys ever decide to do this on a weekend and extend it I would definately be up for it!!:thumbup

When are you guys doing this loop again? Next week? I'll ride w/ya if it's ok next time you go......

We're still checking the weather reports. We'll probably do the next ride next week.

Okay, the next Palomares loop is this coming Tuesday, March 25. The weather should be clear and it's been two weeks. Meeting time is 11:45. Meeting place is changed: Albertson's parking lot on the corner of Hopyard and W. Las Positas, close to the intersection. This is slightly easier to get to and much better than Cycle Gear for heading out to Foothill Road.

See you Tuesday at 11:45. :cool

Looks like the rain is finally going away. Time for another lunch ride.

When: Tuesday, May 6. We'll start riding at 11:45 a.m.

Where: Albertson's parking lot, corner of Hopyard and W. Las Positas in Pleasanton.

Route: The usual Palomares Road loop.

Distance is about 30 miles and it usually takes about 45 minutes. We'll stop somewhere for lunch afterwards.

Post a note if you plan to show up. (We might wait an extra 5 minutes for you if you're late.) :cool

You got my interest! Look for a silver/red F4i and a dude named Tim.

Weather permitting of course. :teeth

Reminder to all - because of the rain, be aware of the rocks & sand that WILL be on the road surface.
Yeah, the road should be "interesting".

Missed it...dayyum!! I think next time a post it note on the forehead.

Next time?? :angel

Tentatively, the next ride is next week: May 13. Maybe if you wore the post-it note all week you would remember. ;)

There were three of us on the ride today and we rode the usual route at a nice easy pace. There was a bit of dirt and gravel here and there along the route, but nothing too difficult.

Now that the weather seems to be clearing up, we'll do this on a more regular basis.

We don't allow riders to fall on these rides. ;) Everybody rode within their limits and we all enjoyed it.
