F4i Oil Change - what do I need?

Good day everyone!

I am trying to do oil change for my F4i soon...


Once I heard someone (from this forum) oil change of F4i is very easy and does not even requied to take off fairings to remove old filter if you use some special Oil Filter Clamp?

Any Idea what's that special Oil Filter Clamp that can remove F4i oil filter without taking off fairings?

None that I know of... If you want to drain and replace the oil, without changing the filter, that is possible without removing the fairings. To get the the filter easily, I think you pretty much need to remove one side panel or the other.

C'mon, it's not like it's difficult to remove the bodywork!
 
yea, after you do it a few times, you can pull it off quick as anything....

i just pull off the left side and do it that way...takes less than 1/2hr for the whole job...
 
Do you have a drain pan? The drain hole is pretty low, so you can't drain back into most oil bottles. I got an old, rusted roasting pan from Goodwill for about $1.

I can't believe it's harder to remove farings then to change the oil with them on.

And don't forget to rock the bike back and forth to get every bit of old (warm) oil out.

As mentioned above, get an oil filter tool from your honda dealer ($10-$15).

1- buy oil filter, crush washer from Honda dealer, and oil from whatever/whoever. (see my other post on sport rider's oil test)

2- you need oil pan, so get one.

3- undo the oil drain nut (see manual), get all of the oil out of the bike. Throw away the old washer.

4- put in the new crush washer on the nut, and tighten it to spec. (I normally tighten with hand all the way, then give it 1/2 turn extra.)

5- undo the oil filter using the oil filter tool, no need to get any fairings out.

6- put a little bit of oil around the o ring of the new filter, put it in place making sure there is no cross threading (easily tightens by hand), and hand tighten it as much as you can using one hand, then just a little bit more (1/8 turn) using the oil filter tool.

7- put exactly 3.3 quarts (3.1 liters) of oil in.

8- DO NOT THROW YOUR OLD OIL AWAY. PUT IT IN A CONTAINER AND TAKE IT TO PEP BOYS OR SOMEWHERE SIMILAR. DISPOSE OF YOUR OLD OIL PROPERLY.
 
I just use a torque wrench to torque the filter in. Yes it's anal, but it's a bit easier since I can't just hand tighten the filter since I have the fairings on.

I don't think that's anal - its really easy to overtighten a filter.
