Hi,

Here is the list of my Clinics and a very short description of each type of clinic.

FYI: a "clinic" is defined as a brief course of instruction with theory and practical knowledge.

Doc Wong Street Riding Clinics (Free):
Starts out at my office 8am on a Sunday with about 1 1/2 hour talk and then do a ride thru the Skyline hills practicing the technique of the day. Beginners are welcome as long as they feel they can safely negotiate the twisty roads up in the hills. We do seperate into groups of 10 riders each of similar skills.

Suspension Clinics (Free):
This is a non-riding clinic that is held at my office and taught by Gary Jaehne. We actually drag a bike into my office and use it for demonstration. Suspension I covers essential basics, Suspension II covers fork and shock construction and how to set damping.

Doc Wong Basic Motorcycle Maintenance (Free):
This is held at a local motorcycle shop where I cover and demonstrate basic maintenance. You don't need to bring your bike, but volunteer bikes are worked on.

Doc Wong Certified First Aid/CPR for Motorcyclists Class
This is a full day of First Aid and CPR geared for motorcyclists and at the end you get a full 2 year CPR certification thru the American Heart Association. Cost: $35.

Doc Wong Dirt Clinics (Free):
This class is held in 2 parts. Friday night is the talk and demonstration of the drills that we will be doing on Sunday. Anyone can come Friday night to the talk at my office. Actually anyone can come to Sunday too, but having a dirt or dual-sport bike will help in doing the drills. ;-)

Track Days ($175-$250):
I participate in track days organized by my favorite track day organizer, the Track Club (AKA Club Desmo). Track Club has a flavor of it's own and they are awesome. I'm certainly available to help you out during any track day I'm at, get you initiated to how track days work, etc!

Doc Wong Groups at Calif Superbike School ($395):
My absolute favorite track school is Keith Code's California Superbike Schools! They are incredible and I'll do a few each year. In fact it's Code's methods that I teach at the Doc Wong Riding Clinics! Highly recommended.

Doc Wong Groups at Rich Oliver's Mystery School ($545): A wonderful way to learn dirt track style sliding in a very safe and controlled enviornment! Rich Oliver is a joy to get instructed from and he puts you thru the steps to being comfortable with sliding a small dirt bike (Yamaha TTR 125s). They are small enough to have fun, yet is not intimidating!

Attended the Doc Wong Basic Motorcycle Maintanence class in Redwood City last month. Great info... brakes, chain, oil, filter... very helpful for a pseudo-newb like me. Great for all levels. Highly recommended! :thumbup

I want to attend the basic suspension clinic. Part 2 is next month. Can I go without having went to Part 1?

I have another bike lined up, but bring yours as a backup. What bike do you have?

Doc

Hi Doc,

Thanks for picking a date when I can make it. I'll definitely be there and I've sent you an email. Cost? Priceless.

John

Which class of the 2 should be taken first - Smooth Riding or Corering Confidence?

You can take any of the Doc Wong Riding Clinics any month as one is not dependant on the other.

Doc

Clear Creek advisory

http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22592

To all;

Season rainfall totals have now exceeded thresholds for future emergency
closure(s) of the Clear Creek Management Area. However, with current
weather clearing no closure is being implemented at this time.

Be advised significant trail and area hazards may exist at this time due to
the recent storms. Additional information will be provided as needed after
field assessments.

Passenger vehicles are not recommended beyond Oak Flat Campground at this
time due to muddy road conditions.

Future storms will be closely monitored and three day (minimum) closures of
the area will be implemented if rainfall exceeds the following thresholds:

1/2 inch of rain or more within 24 hours or 1 inch or more within 72
hours. The following website can be used to access current rainfall within
the area:

Please call or email for additional information.

Hi Doc

Btw, if I am steppin outta line asking this here let me know, will ya? I am very new to this site (as the post cost illustrates....!)

Was motorcycle only type person for about a decade, rode a couple of different 750 street bikes everywhere and anywhere I wanted to go during that time. Two bad crashes and consequences took me out of riding for almost that long, am just getting back in now. I've only ridden the baby bike a few times as it keeps needing things done to it...but it's been enough to show me I've lost a good deal of my skill and almost all of my mental prep and acuteness.

I've looked over the list of classes and don't think I see anything there that would be helpful to someone trying to "get it back" after a long hiatus, at least not from my level of loss. Later, after I've gotten some of it back, yes. Money is a big issue for me as well. So I am posting here to ask if you could reccomend anything free or very very very inexpensive for someone with residual injuries and out for a long time to use to help get re-oriented to mindset and skills.

Thanks.

(residuals = weakened ligaments C4 w/ partial dislocation under stress, spondylosis and partial degen lumbro-sacral junction w/ intermmittant pain one side, bad knees, bad foot ankle and hip one side, partial loss of function other side hand. *smiles* Yes, I will ride anyway, no matter what anyone says, now that I have the chance to...)

Great time with the Friday and Sunday "Save Clear Creek" class Doc- many thanks. I had the pleasure of riding in Ed "SRMC" Tobin's group- and we got history & politics thrown in with some great riding and masterful trails selection!

Salinas Ramblers is fighting the good fight, everyone should help them out!

I too had a good time on Sunday. I didn't take any pictures but I did shoot some video.

I was surprised at how many people showed up for the ride. I went with group one led by Joe. Way harder ride than I had anticipated but all six of us made it out alive. I got quite the workout.

Check out some of the helmet cam footage

It sounds like next time I will have to go with Ed Tobin's group. I would love to get some of his comments about the history of the place and the fight to keep Clear Creek open. I think a video about Clear Creek is in the making.
