any riders around here who have had or at least rode a ninja 650 and a zx6 being either a 636 or 600? i almost like the look of the 650, it is a little strange IMO and the zx6 is very sweet looking but does that extra bit of cc's really make a difference?

The I4 (ZX6R) is faster than the I2 (EX650). 650 twins are great bikes though, I love my SV.

Do you understand anything? Displacement means nothing without engine configuration.

I only took a ride up and down the street on the kawasaki 650R
it felt like a good bigginer bike.

I have a little over 3,000 miles on a 600 ninja, ( ZZR600)

The differences are many,

Do you want a bike good to go to work. ride slower, and is more simple to work on ?
Then the 650R would be good , along with insurance rates.

Do you want a bike for the Canyons ? a bike that handles better ?
Then the 600 or 636 is better , although you will pay a little more for a tune up's , and insurance.

See if you can ride both. What are you riding now ?

You might want to google up the relationship between torque and horsepower and then dig up some dyno graphs of the bikes you mentioned. It should give you a basic idea of their power characteristics.

But the quick answer is, pick the pretty one.

I current own a zx6rr. And a friend of mine bought a 650r.

one day she killed the battery by leaving the key on at Alices. I push started it and then rode it up 35 to help charge the battery up. It was a blast.

The 650 is way more comfortable to ride and is very capable. Super flickable and plenty of power.

Also I had a amazing rider pass me going into turn 2 at thunderhill on a 650r.

Don't think you need an aggressive "600" to have fun on a bike.

quite different bikes, it's not the cc's that separates them.

Big difference, What do you plan to use the bike for? how much experience do you have on a bike? The ZX6R according to most is not a friendly Newbie bike...I tend to agree.

They are two totally different motos, handling-wise, power-wise, and confort-wise.

The 650 is less powerful, but (for me) is WAY more comfortable, and it suits my riding style and needs (two-up is important) much better. I don't miss the (relative) lack of top-end power or bleeding-edge handling; I find that my 650R does everything I need from a moto admirably.

YMMV...

You can also raise the Bars on the ZZR600, 2003 and older ZX6R, with heli bars or another make/model

Then you can have a 600 with more comfort and some wind protection from the lower fairings, that the 650R does not have.

I wonder if you can lower the triple clamps on the older ZX6R , and newer ZZR600 ( Same Bike ) then put the Bar Clamps above the tripple clamp,
would you also have to lower the rear a little ?
That could be done with different dog bones.

Anyone here lowered the front as I discribed , and the Rear ?
on any sportbike ?

zx6r is a race replica with more horsepwoer, better brakes and suspension and race ergos.
the ninja 650 is a faired standard with cheaper suspension and brakes, about 40% less horse power and an upright seating position.

The brakes are *plenty* good, easy to stoppie, hard to fade, good feel in all cases...

Less HP yes, but the torque is comparable down low, which rocks for a commuter or two-up moto.

Suspension is definitely squishier, you're right-on with that!

Do you like a mountain bicycle or a road bicycle? It's like that.

Pretty much comes down to you. Before I bought my 650R, I test rode a same year 6R and for my type of riding (public roadways), the 650R was the better bike (enough power to do the job and alot more comfortable for me). It being cheaper to buy, insured and maintain is just icing on the cake. Test both and spend your money on the one you like best.

I've put 10k mi on my 600 I4, and 7.5k mi on my 650 v-twin. I keep wanting to decide which one I like better, as a commuter and/or a weekend bike, so I could sell the looser for another bike. But, I've found each one offers such a unique and different riding experience it's not possible to declare an overall winner, just like you can't give up either hamburgers or spaghetti-n-meatball. One can be very happy with either, but even happier with both. :teeth

you guys crack me up... i have no bike atm... used to have a zx6r 8 years ago. i think they are more my style. i grew up where there were no other riders or riding communities and we didnt have forums to gain better understanding and knowledge, never knew any mechanics so yeah i love motorcycles but now im trying to understand them better.

to answer some: this would be my main source of transportation, yes to and from work (5 miles) but also a bike to ride up and down the highways and on the scenic routes. i found my zx6r comfortable enough but deff stiffen up after a while
