It seems like a simple question but I can't figure out the answer. So, dear Barfers, what is the front wheel fender's purpose?

So that blasted front wheel doesn't blast the shit out of the underside of your front fairing. Or, in my Monster's case, doesn't sling stuff up in front of the bike so that I ride chest-level into it as I'm moving forward.

Really need to replace my front fender soon.... thanks for reminding me. :p

Keeps the front tire from flinging stuff (pebbles, water, mud) up in front of the bike, which your face would then run into as you move forward.

Take it off yer bike, ride it for 500 miles and answer yer own question.......

Hemper Guy! :thumbup

it's. a hepatitis barrier.

seriously, try riding in the rain without it. do you like drinking a pigeon's bathwater?

Protects fork tubes and seals too if you have inverted forks. I've ridden without one, it's not fun.

stuff

It blocks really dumb questions....or not.

;)

on a race bike it helps with the wind drag from the top of the front wheel spinning forward

Having ridden my Eliminator without a fender for a bit, it's there to keep rocks and other road debris from getting flung up inside your helmet from the bottom...

On my current rides, front fenders do a pretty good job at keeping radiators and oil coolers from taking unnecessary damage.
