A 22-year-old man from Emeryville was shot and killed in North Oakland late Wednesday after he argued with two men who had rear-ended his car, police said.

Aya Nakano, who would have turned 23 on Thursday, had left a pick-up basketball game at UC Berkeley and was driving a silver Jeep Cherokee south on Market Street near Stanford Avenue when he was rear-ended shortly before 11 p.m., police said.

Nakano and the driver of other car, described as a newer four-door silver sedan, pulled to the curb, said Officer Johanna Watson, an Oakland police spokeswoman.

"He did the right thing," Watson said. "He was involved in a collision, and he pulled over."

After Nakano got out of his car, he and the two men who were in the sedan got into some sort of confrontation, Watson said. One of the other men pulled out a gun and shot Nakano.

No. But you do need to check your attitude and not get into a confrontation. (Message meant for both sides.) Not sure who started it or how it escalated but it's just plastic and metal.

for some people, "attitude" is not accepting "no" for an answer when asking for insurance contact information.

Works just fine where the good folks are armed. The bad ones have a shorter life expectancy.

Does not work so well where you pretend that guns are bad, mmmkay, and nobody should have one.

Guess what? The bad guys haven't put theirs down.

sounds like a boring outing if I can't have a MP5 or similar slung :(

I'm just too damned slow in the real world from any concealed weapon holster to accurate first shot placement with a pistol (never been able to practice with anything other than airsoft/paintball, etc) but give me a patrol slung rifle and I'll be faster and more accurate. If the SBR is concealed under a jacket, the draw time will be similar to my slow-ass CCW draw but my first shot placement is actually effective. At least that;s what laser trainers, airsoft and paintball have demonstrated in my limited training opportunity.

Yes, I admit I'm not one of you tacticool uber gunkata masters. I know what I can do in training, in real life-and it's unimpressive. I know it'd be worse under stress. But knowing my limitations means I choose my hardware and situations to accomodate :)

Doesn't help that my preferred ( if I actually carried, cuz CCW is illegal here in San Jose for me LOL) carry is a S&W 19-3 in an ankle holster. Us fat guys don't hide automatics well, comfortably or accessably in the belt LOL

with an open SBR, there's no question that someone wanting to "start something" is doing so with the knowledge of potentially fatal consequences :)

I'll be the guy in the back prone with a heavy barrel and a scope. My next year's training goal is "running like a b*tch" to get the High Ground. "If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!" . And you all can laugh yer butts off when you read about it in the news LOL

Oh i dont think guns are bad...i grew up in an army fam and have owned one for a long time. I just don't think people should be carrying them around and that they belong at home, to protect your home.

When shit goes haywire, the difference between good guy and bad guy can change very quickly.
