ADV/DS ride Lake Berryessa/Knoxville OHV/Rayhouse Rd.

The gate is open

Just went through last Wednesday. Was looking forward to trying my hand at riding around the gate (990 Adventure loaded with camping gear) but alas, it was open. And no, I didn't really see the point riding around an open gate.
 
Can't go this Sunday, but the DR should be fully sorted out by next month.
















I just need a reminder that ride is coming up. :teeth

Perfect weather yesterday on Knoxville, and Reiff

Road conditions were perfect. Just enough rough stuff to keep in interesting, but mostly smooth sailing.

I was planning on hitting the Cow Mountain ride on Sat but It looks like I've got another commitment.

I'll probably go do Berryessa/Knoxville & Reiff on Sunday though, if I can get a few minor repairs done early Sat. I want to see how well the Pirelli Scorpions do for me on that kind of terrain. I'm use to Heidenau K60s, wanna see how a more road oriented tire does.

Im in. Been feeling slackery since I missed Sheetiron this year. I better get out and ride somewhere.

I'm out - gotta find a water leak somewhere under the throttle bodies. On the KTM that means pulling both tanks, air box & TBs. Yes, I'm whining.

There may be other riders at the other checkpoints..


First checkpoint: intersection of CA-121 and CA-128 (Poser's AKA Crossroads: N 38 26.764 W 122 11.767) ~ 9:45AM (depending on how fast we strafe CA-121.)

Second checkpoint: South Entrance to Knoxville OHV on Devilshead Rd. off Morgan Valley Rd, (N 38 49.019 W 122 21.182) ~ 10:30AM if no one drowns in the several water crossings on the Northend of Lake Berryessa. Chance to empty bladder and suck in the fresh air... and for the posers to excuse themselves by staying on the slab to make Lower Lake for lunch.

Third checkpoint: Reiff Rd./Rd-40 and Morgan Valley Rd. (N 38 52.524 W 122 25.445) Probably 12 Noon. Had enough dirt? break off and head out on slab.

Fourth checkpoint: Cache Creek Bridge in Cache Creek Regional Park (N 38 54.518 W 122 18.704) off CA-16. 1:00PM Ditto: Had enough dirt? break off and head out on slab. Hint: The fast route back is through the dirt you just came from.

Where was everyone yesterday? I got to posers around 9:55 and didn't see anyone so I proceeded to the Knoxville turnoff at a spirited pace thinking I could catch up. But no one was to be found there either. I figured my spirited pace must not have been spirited enough so I rode into Knoxville where I found some nice folks that said they hadn't seen anything but a couple hikers all morning. Ooops:teeth
So I tried to lolygag for a bit at a couple of stop but still hadn't seen a soul by the time I reached the other end. At this point I gave up hope to find the group and decided to do my own ride. So I headed down the slab to Reif Rd where I encountered a bunch of cagers hauling ass straight at me around blind curves. I thought that maybe it was a bad idea to be riding by myself and maybe I should turn around. Pfffffftttt whatever! I pressed on! I got to the intersection at at the top of the hill and decided to go find this Bear Creek campground I've seen the sign many times before but never explored. 5 miles later you come to the top of hill over looking a winding river with turquoise colored water and campground with two guys that came in a Razor to go fishing. I had my lunch in the shade where the river was burbling over some rocks and enjoyed the tranquility of the place and made a note to come back here for camping soon! I finished up the rest of my ride out to Zero Ton bridge without seeing another soul until I got to the bridge. The water was running really high; all of the way up to the side of the bridge so I stopped and dangled my feet in the water for a while and watched to see how many rafters would ignore the signs and get sucked under. Thankfully no one did. :afm199 It was a good ride.

I camped at Buck Island a few years ago
and it was fun ... pretty close to
Lower Haight for me ... :ride

LOL... Buck Island...that's what I meant :) Those are great pics, nice and green! Mine got a little blown out in the midday sun.
