I crashed at Thunder Hill last weekend and then my rc390 caught fire. I'm OK, thanks for asking. The good news is that insurance exists and Z2 is a school and not a race.

Thanks to Jeremy, Bassem, and all the Z2 guys for cheering me up, Marco for giving me a ride home, and Gawernator for towing my bike there and back. Also thanks to the fire crew at T-hill. I would have felt like a huge asshole if I started a wildfire.

The good news is that now I get to pick a new bike. I'd actually like some advice on this. I love love love the rc390 and would happily replace this one with a new, non-burnt version. My only problem with the rc390 is that I think I'm pretty big for it. I got a comment that the bike was too small for me and I sort of agree. I'd also like more power in general, so I'm wondering about a 600. (Cue "you're not ready for a 600" comments)

I like the r6 and daytona 675. I'm also looking at CBR600's and GSX-R 600's. Just want to pick your brains. Would buy used.

Ah I was in the pit in between sessions when I saw the bikes stop on the top of turn 5 due to a red flag. Then I saw the black smoke around turn 2 and always wondered what had happened. Glad you're alright and will be picking up a new bike soon.

Thrilled to hear you got it sorted. We have had n00bs crash epically before, but you're the first fire...

I'm Totally biased, so the 675 is one hell of a bike. I just love the low RPM power delivery of a triple. That said, the R6 is is a proven champion.

Good luck, and I hope you are willing to try another track day when you're ready. I'll give you grinding/no panic drills before you go out.

Damn, Philip. A friend of mine posted a photo of your bike on Facebook and didn't know it was yours. Glad you are ok!

Damn, man. Glad you are OK and that insurance is covering it. Very cool.

I also neglected to hit the engine off switch when I walked away. :thumbdown

You can't let that keep you up at night. The number one rule of track crashes is, get the hell away from your bike. Anything short of that is just crazy town.

Sure you could have hit it on the way out, and I bet you will do it every time from here on out, but you did the right thing, you protected the most important thing you had out there, you. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

You can always buy a new bike.

Fuck it, get a 1290. They don't burn when they crash.

I think maybe stick with smaller bikes for a little while. Flap? Then move up after we've ironed out some fundamentals. (Eyes, control use, planning etc)

Street and track bike or just track bike?

IMO Ull be better off with a Supersport or Superbike if you intend to track it a lot. They just work at the track better out of the box than anything else.

I saw your bike in the trailer when I arrived at the track Saturday afternoon. Looked a bit crispy. Too late to name him "Icarus?" :laughing

Flap? You're probably right to stick with another 300 even if I look large on it. I had a guy named Rory come up to me after the 2nd session to comment on my braking. Was that you?

What's the difference between Supersport and Superbike? And yes, I want a faired sport motorcycle. Probably will just replace the rc390.
