How many years should riding boots last?

Okay, it's a rhetorical question. I recently noticed that the soles of both of my Gaerne boots were separating at the front. I was annoyed that they would do that "so soon". And I've found a good adhesive to reattach them so that I can still use them for a while longer.

When did I buy them? November of 2003. :laughing

For some reason I feel that good boots ought to last forever. My better quality Sidi boots still seem in great shape, other than needing some polish. I wear the Gaerne boots for medium-length rides and the Sidi boots for the longer, more serious rides. It's a little more work to put the Sidi boots on, but they offer a bit more protection.

How long do your motorcycle boots usually last before you need to retire them?

it's not years but miles of use that wear items like this out.

My current boots have over 50K on them and are fine. The wear for me seems to be from the gear shift more than anything else.

The boots I wear for commuting M~F I've worn since 2002. Sidi brand but can't recall the model. Were $300 or so back in the day. Looking to get them re-soled at this point but otherwise decent enough.

I bought a pair of Daytona boots at Helimot in 1999 and didn't have to replace them until 2016. Good boots. I got Daytonas again.

Boots and gloves both seem to wear out just when they get comfortable. W has the same pair of A* Nordlunds from the early '90s

I think it depends on two things...

How many days a week do you wear the boots and the type of sole on the boot.

And are they the thick Vibram type sole or thin road race sole?

My thin road race type sole boots worn 5 days a week last about 2 years.

That's about what I get out of soles. I'm worried my uppers are too soft to be protective on my sidi road race style boots.

Do you toss the whole boot every two years or just resole?

Good question. I noticed the sole coming off my A* GP tech wunder-buut. Now what? No repair service listed at A* anymore. :nchantr

For me, it depends on the boot. I had a great pair of motocross boots in the 80's that I resoled at a local shoe repair. He did an awesome job and I still have those boots. Resoled a few street boots with good results, but I have to really like the boot, otherwise when worn, it's an opportunity to buy better boots.

I currently have a pair of Dainese street boots that are okay, but will not see another sole.

First pair was a set of Joe Rocket Big Bang 2.0. The shoes fell apart on me after less then a year. They were replaced on warranty but I haven't even worn the replacements.

Second pair, Sidi Rain boots. They still look about as good as they day I bought them, and are totally waterproof. granted I don't have 15 years yet on them...

But basically, seems like it would depend on brand and design.

How long does his boots last? Does he care. Hell NO! :laughing
Sorry. I just came across this pic, and it is just so MM wicked that I had to post it.
And this thread seemed appropriate.

This made me realize I've had my (track) riding boots for a decade, which is plenty long for me. Based on how infrequently they're used, I'll probably have them another decade.

I had an older, waterproof pair of boots that only lasted me 4 years, but that was with everyday usage, and lots of walking around a college campus.

I've been wearing the same Sidi boots since Dragon gave them to me in '08/09? and I have no idea how long he'd had them before then. I finally got a new pair of Lady Alpinestar boots but I haven't broken them in yet so still wear the Sidis 99% of the time. So far I've had to have the Sidis resoled once but am not a hardcore everyday rider either.

I picked up a set of Daytona Security Evos from Helimot that need to be resoled (they were cheap), I was given a card with a recommended place on it but haven't had it done yet.

I ride around 5-8k thousand track miles a year, and get 2-3 years out of my Alpinestar SMX Plus boots. I usually have three pairs I rotate, and get them resoled. They all end up wearing out at the little toe/ball area where I weight the peg. My street boots are both 10 years old at least.
