Post / Chat whores post here (2026)

I recently listened to an interesting podcast (huberman) on dog training. A concept that I did not know (or fully grasp) is that every litter of pups has one single "pack leader", the alpha (first born male), and the rest are all "followers". The followers are naturally much easier to train and much less defiant... but the leaders naturally want to be in charge all the time. This makes total sense! Our Labrador before Max was one of the last two pups of his litter... and he was a breeze to train. Max was the largest male of his litter and the breeder commented he was the first born and the first to walk away from mom. Bruno was also the largest male and the first born, and he was obviously in total charge of his litter mates. Both Max and Bruno have pushed me to my absolute limits as pups, and in exactly the same ways... deviance, testing the limits, never backing down.:mad
Knowing this now, if I was ever to get another puppy, I may opt to not pick the "leader". However, I also suspect that once you make it thru puppy hell, that a mature "leader" may be the better dog in certain ways (intelligence, confidence, protectiveness, etc). It was quite an ah-ha moment for me.

155 here on Purple Air.

We have a sensor in the backyard that reports to them.

AQI Number Ranges
    • 0–50 (Good): Air is clean; little to no risk.
    • 51–100 (Moderate): Acceptable air, but sensitive people may feel mild effects.
    • 101–150 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups): Children, older adults, and people with heart/lung issues should cut back on outdoor exertion.
    • 151–200 (Unhealthy): Everyone may start to feel health effects.
    • 201–300 (Very Unhealthy / Purple): Health alert; risk increases for everyone.
    • 301+ (Hazardous / Maroon): Emergency conditions; everyone should avoid outside activity. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Purple air is showing over 200 for where my kid lives with their mom in Sebastopol 😬

During the big fires here in Southern Oregon in 2020, AQI got as bad as 600+. That's gnarly and I was glad I didn't suffer through it. When it gets around 150 at my place I'm like, YUCK.

So my best friend and also two other friends and their daughter I used to live next to are visiting me here in Hemet tomorrow. The best friend is coming early in the afternoon for lunch then meeting up with the others to go see a movie and then bowling after and probably game night later.

The max for AQI is 500. I know they report higher, I've seen up to 900. But it technically is like saying you'll give 120%.

Figure out what you’ll use it for. Then be realistic, are you really going to take that fully suspended, ultra light mid-motor bike out on trails?
Speaking for myself, I know I’m not going to ride a mountain bike, I also know I will never be a competitive road bike warrior. I wanted a bike for the grocery store, to take in the train and ride solely for recreation. I also needed it to work on the property between the garage, the neighbor’s, the pool and trailer. I wound up buying kind of an suv of e-bikes. Mine is a rear motor which made it very affordable.
