Real-World Experience: Garmin Zumo XT vs Montana 700i

Sure. If you create a route that specifically takes you on 50, the XT or Montana will honor that and run you the way you’d planned.
That's how I do it whenever I want a specific route. I map it in Google Maps, then use https://mapstogpx.com/ to make a GPX file, when I load into the GPS unit.

Mine can still occasionally get "confused" about where it's going and I'll have to reload the route to get it back. The 550 is fine with a route that I have made that doesn't have any roads that it recognizes (off road), but the 660 can't handle that correctly, which is why it doesn't get used on my bikes. Also, the 550 has a blue line where I've been so I can get back the way I came if I'm genuinely lost. The 660 doesn't do that.

Stefan....we should have a face to face discussion. I have some experience with Garmin product on a recent ride I took...

If it's the ride I'm thinking, I fully understand the Garmin experience :rofl Still, we should definitely chat in person.

Following the conversation and one of my pet peeves surfaced. Google maps suggestion an alternative route presenting occasional difficulty in removing the quick option to opt-out.

Desire to travel US 50 from Sac to Maryland and wonder if these units would be able to keep me on US 50 and not divert me to more 'logical' routes.

Oh, this is a good point, I HATE that. I usually spend a good deal of time inputting my route and I have gotten re-routed and not even known it at times since I was focused on the road in front of me. I wish there was a way to turn that "feature" off.

What's nice about a dedicated GPS is that you can select recalculate to either auto, prompt or off. There are times when I'm wandering around and have a destination programmed and not a route. With recalc set to auto, the GPS tells me how to get to my destination from where ever I'm at. I set recalc to off when I want to follow a route that doesn't go directly from point A to point B.

Interesting so I read a few reviews.
It doesn't work with non capacitive touch enabled gloves.
It's mounted with a standard RAM ball mount so easy to heist.
Your phones needs to be on a charger otherwise, when it in a nav mode, the battery won't last a days worth of riding.

I have an XT and am pretty happy with it. Have used it on the street and on my dual sport. One issue that I’ve run into, which quite probably is my own doing, is that I had a route planned but wanted to run it backwards and could not get it to route it the opposite way.

If you can figure that one out, it would be great. I would love to have that feature.

The only thing I've found that comes close is to choose the route, then select "preview route" and leave it in that mode. It shows the route and where you are on it, but doesn't help out with which turns are next or anything. It seems like such an obvious feature to have, and it wouldn't be hard for Garmin to do.
