Crater Lake Trip 8/19 - 8/21/2005

Sport-Tourer's,

I have planned a 3-day 1000 mile trip to crater lake. PM me if you want my trip plan. So far its just me and the wife (2-Up) and one friend.

I have gotten reservations at two places for the nights, for myself, but will need to make more, if others are coming.

hmm, I have been planning such a trip myself this summer. I'll let you know as we get closer. What town are you planning on staying in?

I was just in that area earlier in the month & maybe everyone already knows this, (it was my first trip north) but it was frikkin' cold up there in the mountains! At about 5k feet, you're much better off with leathers instead of mesh. Yeah, I only had the mesh along on my trip. Medium-weight gloves were necessary & I at least had those along. 8k feet & I was questioning my own wisdom & looking across the valley at snow on the mountains.

Just a word to those like me who haven't been up there before.

Have a great time!

Hey Rob, we set the dates for our Crater Lake tour the following weekend, plus that Thur-Fri. Thanks for the route guide. We're going to use the extra time to visit Lava Beds NM.

No problem Zar. I wanted to do the same but the due to work scheduling issues. I think I will goto the Lava Beds the next month when I go on a Lake Tahoe trip.

Since I will up there a week before you I will post a road report for you when I get back.

I'm glad you had a good trip (except for the brake).

I cannot wait to hear your trip report.

I too plan to visit Oregon before the Fall. I may not do your # of miles each day though. I need to have a couple of days to check out the fishing.

Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Work has prevented me from getting that trip report out this week, but I will have it by next week.

My plan was 1000 miles. It turned out to be 1340 miles. Since I had to back track 100+ miles to fix the brake. It also mad me add a day up there also, so we explored the oregoian coast a little more. I just wish I did more twistys, I got a big ol' flat spot on that tire. (I also does not help that I was fully loaded with my wife on the back)

Can't wait for the full report. My GF and I are planning a similar trip for Labor Day weekend. Was it really that cold up there?

If 85 is cold then yes.....

No it was not cold inland. Medford and Grants Pass was 95. But when we got to the Oregon coast it was nice, til the fog... then about 60.

Yeah, it gets nippy. I just did the entire coast and even with textiles over jeans and long-sleeves, it got frikking cold!

I'm going to check my schedule. I may ride down and meet y'all at Crater Lake.

Not Dial up friendly.

Sorry wilit I did not post this before yours. My days were nice, yours looked a little dull. Hope it was just your camera!

If I can figure out where to plug the loose hose on my bike, I'll ride down and join you guys at Crater Lake.
