8/20/05 my Tahoe road trip - BARF

On Saturday I decided somewhat last minute to take a road trip. I stuffed some clothes into my tank bag, geared up, and took off. I made up my mind to take 88 northeast and probably end up in Tahoe eventually.

My first stop. Where else but a Starbucks? This was in Stockton on Waterloo Road (hwy 88) at 99.

Vista point at Jackson. Kennedy mine is nearby, one of these trips I would like to check this out.

I rode thru Jackson and took 49 south for a few miles to Mokelumne Hill. I stopped here at the Hotel Leger for a beer and about 4 glasses of water. This hotel had a nice bar and billiards room.

This was a nice looking place, I may stay here on one of these trips. There is also a small brewery in town. I should have taken more pictures here but it was time to move on.

So I ended up going back a few miles to Jackson. At the 88/49 junction is a Best Western that looked pretty good. The girl at the desk set me up with a room that I could keep the cycle very close by.

After settling in and a quick dinner, it was bar hopping time. The gixxer had to stay at the motel. I went to the bar in the National Hotel. They had some good live music that night and the place quickly filled up with locals. I had a damn good time here. Can't really see much in this cell phone pic, but this was the view from my barstool out at downtown Jackson.

Yep, no more riding tonight! I assured the bartender that I only had to stagger across the street to the motel, and then it seemed that my shotglass always had some Jack in it...

Sunday morning and back on the road somewhat early. Traffic going north was light, but I saw quite a few motorcycles on 88. First stop of the day was this vista point which I believe overlooks Bear River Reservoir.

Carson Spur, almost 8000 feet up. My old carbureted gixxer felt like it had about 25 horsepower up here. She runs a little too richâ€¦
