A bit of unintentional sport-touring
Friday I discovered that Motorcycle Superstore is in Medford, Oregon, down 30 miles from the Cali border. I also discovered that they had the leathers I wanted in the size I hoped would fit. Rather than order them and risk them not fitting, I decided to ride down and try them on. I got to Medford a little later than I thought because of Portland traffic, but decided to stay the night. Off to Target for toothbrush, razor, clean shirt...that sort of stuff. The next morning, I found my leathers - they fit like a glove - and decided to keep riding rather than go home. I rode through some beautiful back country and met some cool people...then down Crescent City, CA and all the way up the Oregon Coast. I had a blast. Here are a few pics:
Along the way, I discovered that Llamas like Ducatis: ![]() |

Cows do not.
(There were no fences keeping them in). I was riding along and saw a hang glider come sailing down from a mountain, followed by about 20 more. I turned off onto a more rural road to find them (yes!! I'm taking lessons!!) and talk with them. The cows were giving my bike the evil eye, I was hoping like hell they wouldn't spook and trample me. ![]() |

There were so many cool little towns with the nicest people. One town was having some sort of annual fundraising fair, with people strolling around town in 1800's costumes, selling things at booths, etc. There was one booth selling Alpaca wool sweaters, scarves, and hats. Alpaca are funny looking things. There was a live band playing country music

I rode down through the redwood forest to Crescent City, CA, then turned and rode all the way up the Oregon Coast.
It was beautiful. A lighthouse: ![]() |

I decided that since tend to take off on a whim, I need to upgrade my "emergency kit" under the seat. I'll also be adding clean undies when I figure out how to shrink-wrap them:

I saw a whale frolicking in the waters, but couldn't get a good pic of him without a telephoto lens.

I'd ridden the entire coast in my cage, but it was nothing compared to the smells, the wind, and the curves while on my bike. The only disappointment was Tillamook, OR. I had the worst meal there, and the town wasn't what I expected. All along the way, I met some awesome people, though, and stopped off at several town fairs and an antique car show. Sprotbile touring rocks!

Part deux. Note the fetish for dayglow undersurfaces / harnesses, and the purple helmet.
