Santa Rosa to Moab, Utah, on an R6?

Just got back from a 3k trip on my new '06 R6. Joined my buddy in Fresno with his Tuono and rode to Vegas the second (and longest) day at 480 miles. No, it wasn't especially comfortable, but not unbearable, either. Cramped knees are the biggest issue for me. We found some really fine roads along the way, hwy 12 into Torrey, Utah, had to be one of the best. Canyonlands is awesome, so is Capitol Reef. Lightning struck 70 yards from the bikes at Natural Bridges and set a tree on fire.....cheated death again.....
I'm going to try to post a couple of pics.
Bike was awesome except for a couple of hard starts and it didn't much like the 104 degrees at Vegas. I had the suspension set for a track day just before the trip, and it was VERY firm, to say the least. Now I get new tires (Pilot Powers) and synthetic oil (Mobil 1) and we can really get movin'.

man, i did 380 miles in a single day on my R6, and I couldn't have gone much further than that. My hamstrings were killing me after being cramped for so long.

Or did you ride at 100mph? Because then it might have been bearable. Maybe.

I found another place to carry stuff....took the foam out of the hump in the back of my suit and stuffed the space with spare shorts and tees etc.!!!!!!!! You don't need a lot of stuff for 11 days.

Darn, lightning strikes sound awsome! I too have had some of the most incredible adventures on the bike!

The back hump is gonna be a storage option for all new leathers being made! What a smart idea you had.

He forgot to mention that in the middle of a 3000 mile trip he also made a quick run up to the top of Angel's Landing in Zion in 50 minutes! (5 miles, uphill, avrg hiking time: 5 hours)

And he and that R6 were even able to keep up with my Tuono (most of the time )

Here he is , that late-apexing fellow, with the bike that offers no wind protection over 80. But then, we never went over 80....

Nice pics. I love Moab. Is it still really dry in the region? Last time I went was 2 years ago and Lake Powell was all dried up There was a place that I had been jumping off rocks into water the year before that was dried to the bottom. It was kind of creepy actually.. I got there late at night and it was completely desolate. I got to a boat ramp and drove down. And down. And down. And down. All the way to the dry bottom I want to go back later this summer hopefully.

Lake Powell is not as low as it was last year, and was still rising while we were there due to mountain runoff. But it is still way down. We crossed it near Hite on 95.
The lightning strike came just after that, when we were inside the Natural Bridges Visitor Center, fortunately.

That's good to hear. It's funny, a friend and I parked our truck on a rock overlooking Lake Powell at Hite and set up our tent there. Right after that, a big lightning storm/light rain came through for a couple hours. It was really cool but then not so cool when it got close and we thought we were going to get fried

It's awesome watching the lightning storms out there though. Unless they almost cook your bike or fry your tent
