Little romp around Yosemite - BARF

Took a little ride around Yosemite this past weekend with BigD, snapdragon, maxlean (san jo edition) and we were joined by another rider from a different forum, Jeff. We started out headed out of Sonora where we met up with Jeff, and headed up 108.

the observant ones out there might wonder what the red patch on my helmet is, as well as the scuff on my upper chest and knee . . .

well, I had a brain fart, and Hwy 108 reached out and bit me on the ass.

remember kids, concentrate. lack of concentration can do evil things.

I was not hurt at all, aside from a sore and tight shoulder. I must say I got off very lucky.

The immediate cause of throwing my bike down the road was that I had my head up my ass, and the turn took me by suprise. Contributing to the event, and in a large part saving our day was the case guard.

I drug the case guard, which I belive leverd the tire off the road, and thats all she wrote

hmm, now I get to pick a new helmet
Note the Mcgyvered side plate, so I could at least ride with a shield. Thanks to snapdragon who had some tape on hand.
Just imagine a 3/4 or beanie. <shivers>

never really cared about armored gloves, kinda thought it was a gimick, and not suited to my usual riding style. I am sold on them now, that is for certain.

all in all, I was extremely lucky, and still pissed at myself. I was not hurt at all, aside from a sore shoulder. and didnt even feel the knee hit and wasnt aware that I had hit it until some minutes later.

The site was an uphill tight right hander, with a turn out to the left. I was not paying attention, looked over to the left at the sights, then realized I was in trouble.
I was very lucky that no one else was coming the other way, because I came to rest on the outside of the other lane. The black marks are from the rear tire, which was spinning like a son of a gun, cause the throttle was pinned. The rear tire ended up about where Dave (BigD ) is standing. While sliding along with the bike, my boot was caught uner the bike. I was able to kick it free and was able to jump up right away. My fear was someone coming down the hill. Git the bike up, and got out of the way.

Cause of my spill, I TOTALLY screwed the pooch. Took my mind of the road for a second, and got suprised.

So, I didnt feel like taking too many more pics the rest of the day.

Damage to the bike, minimal. Busted turnsignal (fixed with more tape

), scratched case guard, small nicks in the fender and mirror, scratched the heck out of my throttlemeister, which I think helped minimze the damage to the bike ( it is longer than the regular barend, and I it think acted as a sort of slider), and I lost about a 1/3 of the brake lever.
What pissed me most was the damage to my suit. First long ride with it, and I go pavement surfing.

I guess riding a HD is a handicap, and that allows one to park in handicap spaces. (to be fair, I didnt check if it had a handicap plate.)

God, I hate getting my pic taken, 90% of the time my eyes are closed.

I hadn't been to Yosemite in over 20 years. The scale is something that can't really be described.

I am going back sometime soon. A day and a half is too short to see everything worth seeing. It was about 700 miles total.

It was a fun weekend, (aside from my brain fart moment) and I cant wait to go again.

one o my fav loops is hwy 4 round to 108 and back
stay at lake alpine and catch some mountain trout!
