Riding today on the warm sunny roads...
of Southern California. After getting out only two days in the last two weeks I decided it was time to get back to where the sun is shining and do some riding. I went out today for lunch at Idyllwild and I have to say it was a nice day. High 60s in Palm Desert and low 60s up top. Tomorrow will be warmer and I am ready to get going again. The Ohlins is working great. It also helps to have new tires and chain and sprockets. People around here say that the top part of 74 is rough and bumpy but it felt smooth and hook up to me today.

Looking up the Mountain
Here is the view going up 74 a few turns from the bottom. I am out for a late lunch ride. The road is looking good.

Top of 74
Here is the top of 74 just near Pinyon Pines. This part of the road is pretty quick and up and down hills after climing 12 miles to the top. It goes along for quite a few miles like this.

Where am I now?
Oh yeah San Bernardino Forest. Says it right on the sign. The 6 miles down the canyon and back to Anza is pretty sweeping and quick going fun.

Looking down to Anza
on 371. A nice canyon road with no traffic and lots of sweepers.

Back on 74 going to Mt. Center
This part of 74 is really nice, after Lake Hemet and just before Mt. Center. Goes up to 5000 ft with lots of hills and fun curves. But my favorite part is the 6 miles after Mt. Center to Idyllwild. Lots of wide curving U turns and lots of elevation change. There are some long straights near Lake Hemet and the indicator was showing Mach II, but that couldn't be right, it just didn't feel that fast, really.

Made it to Idyllwild...
was going to stop at the cafe at Pinyon Pines, but was having too much fun. Then went right past the cafe at 371 and 74. Made it to Idyllwild in no time. Pretty little town. Kind of quiet in winter.

Lunch at the Squirrels Nest
a fine place with reserved parking for my motorcycle right out front. The kiddies sitting with their parents seemed to like my bike. I think they want one when they grow up.

1 of the 100 best small arts towns
in American. Yes it is. Idyllwild. Who would have though. And a lot of art stores there are too. But I didn't have time to check them out.

Palmhenge
ancient stone monoliths at the bottom of Highway 74. Notice the slabs laying in front the the monoliths. I belive they are altars use to sacrifice slow moving cagers to the speed demon.
