Weekend in the Sierras
Saturday I had to work at 6 AM, but was out of work by 9:30, on the road by 11. Since I live off of highway 4 anyway, I just took that straight through stockton, up into the hills.
First picture is some overlook on highway 4, just past the summit. ![]() |

After a quick stop for the photo I continued on, hooked up to highway 89 (Monitor Pass) and blasted up that with a gentleman on a superhawk. Clouds were dark, at first I thought it was rain until I noticed the red tint to them. Not rain clouds, fire. Stopped at the overlook on 89, had a great conversation with the guy on the superhawk, and watched the fire with some other riders.

Another view of the fire, this was taken from 395. Kinda looks like a volcano from here!

From there I headed West on highway 108. Love this road!!!
Somewhere along the line I came up on two SUV's going pretty damn slow. The first pulled over to let me pass, the second I passed on my own. About 10 minutes after I passed them I'm pulled over to the side checking out a fishing spot when one of the SUV's pulls up and asks if I'm the guy she let pass. I said yup and then she told me how after I passed, she tried to pass the guy in front of her and he swerved at her and hit her car!!!! It was a rental, she had the insurance, but damn what an ass... ![]() |

I hoped to stay somewhere on 108 Saturday night, but couldn't find a hotel room anywhere, so I took highway 49 over to 120 and started heading up towards Yosemite. Stopped in groveland and found my sleeping spot. That airstream trailer behind my bike...that's my room for the night!

Sunday woke up and looked at the map thinking which way am I going to go. Groveland is really close to the entrance of Yosemite, but I wanted to do more riding. Decided to head east just a bit and hook up to Cottonwood road which would take me back north/west to the lower part of 108 so I could run 108 all over again, the other direction. Cottonwood road is great, I was having too much fun to take any pictures besides this one though...

I took 108 east (got rained on real quick), back to 395, and hooked up to 120 from the backside. Fished some lake just before the entrance to Yosemite. Caught some fish, here's a picture of one and his home. Picture was taken just before he flopped his way back in to the water...

This picture doesn't do it justice, but as soon as I entered Yosemite, I was greeted with dark clouds on the horizon. I'd already ridden through a quick shower, hoped this one didn't last longer because I wasn't prepared for being rained on!

Rain was minimal. Took this picture entering the valley. Last picture I took, stayed the night Sunday in Curry Village and booked home today. 800 miles total. Was a good ride, can't wait until next weekend!!

great pics... was there last weekend. backpacked from glacier point to small yosemite valley; camped there for the night. we then hiked up half dome the next morning. later on in the day, we went home.
the roads (paved) in yosemite is very nice. don't you think? can't wait to go back there again.

Hehe.. my neck of the woods. I used to live on Highway 4 and then also in Sonora / Jamestown. Used to boink an ex-Budweiser girl that lived in Groveland. When younger and in my 'drinking prime', we all used to head up and party at Hetch Hetchy as well as the camping park just before you enter Yosemite. Thanks for the pics! You reminded me of my hoodlum years.
