Beautiful Ride in the Sierras – Hwy 49, 89 and 88!

Here are a few pictures of our ride this weekend. On Saturday, over St. Helena, to Hwy 20 all the way to Grass Valley. North on Hwy 49 was awesome, plenty of nice tight twisties, and a minimum of traffic. Hwy 89 to Truckee, wonderful cruise with a little more traffic. (See Road Reports about Hwy 49 construction.)

Then Sunday morning south on Hwy 89 to Emerald Bay. What a great ride, but bicycles and slow speed limits, puts a damper on the fun. Then from Emerald Bay to Hwy 88. Hwy 88 is a great easy cruise with high-speed straights and rolling turns all above 6000 feet. The views are great, and the traffic was nil. I highly recommend this highway for the twisties AND for cruising.

Later Hwy 88 turns into cross traffic hell and then Hwy 12, the SUV/Boat wasteland back to Santa Rosa.

Hwy 49

Great shots!

Here is the less photographed vista point in Williams, the valley haze (dust, smog and smoke) looking west.

...Sold !!! I'm heading to Twain Harte (108) for the next two weekends. I'm first gonna do 108/395/120/108 loop. Then the following weekend I will do 108/49/88/89/395/108 loop.
Thanks for the recommendation of 88 being traffic free and fun.
I just got back this weekend from Willow Creek (East of Eureka). Did 49 (Killer-Killer-Killer), 149 miles of nothing but nature. Also did 299 and a little of 36. I also recommend Titlow Road/Forest Service 1....56 miles on a ridge looking east and west (traveling North and South). I should have pics up this evening of my "Deep N. Cal Venture".

Looks like you guys had a good ride. We went to some of the same places. I had dinner in Truckee on Sunday night after the parade. The weather was really good and the lake was beautiful.
