Ride to Willits: 7-24-04

Had a great ride up to Willits today and back. (Sorry for the wrong date in the title. It was actually Saturday). Went with DMcTriumph. We started the day at the deli on Lucas Valley Road, hit the bakery in Tomales, then headed up the coast. Our intended route was to turn onto Mt. View Road, just past Pt. Arena, and head inland. However, the fog was so thick and the road so wet (wait, is this February?) that we decided to head inland at Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Road.

After running Skaggs, we hit Dutcher Creek Road to Cloverdale, then headed up Hwy 128 to Boonville.

After getting gas and eating in Boonville, we rode through Philo and picked up Philo Greenwood Road to Elk. This is a fairly nice road with lots of twisties and a few surprises.

At Elk, on Hwy 1, we headed north and turned onto Ukiah Comptche Road near Mendocino. This road heads east through the tiny town of Comptche and on to Ukiah. It is a mixture of goat trail and good road. I have to say though that the last part of the road descending into Ukiah is freakin awesome!

Here are some photos of the trip. The first is by the Reef (Beef) Campground, just south of Ft. Ross. The cows were grazing on the edge of the road.

This is one of my favorite "squiggles" in the road, just before Ft. Ross.

Last one of Ukiah Comptche. I wish I had taken more shots of this road, especially at the end because it was so nice. But I was getting tired, and, frankly, it was 800 degrees out. Who wants to stop?
