Couple more pics from w-a-y up North (Hwy 3 & 96) - BARF

After taking a trip up north a few weeks ago with DMCTriumph, Iamic, Bronze & Henry, as soon as I got back I started planning my next trip up there. When we were up there, we did a couple of loops, most notably 96 to 3 to 299 and back to 96. That was the main reason I wanted to go back up there, to do that loop again. It was a pretty fast group and we broke the speed limit at least 2 or 3 times

so basically I wanted to go back up there and see all the stuff I missed the first time. The plan was for a 3-day trip, taking 101 north to 36 just south of Fortuna, take 36 all the way to Hwy 3, take Hwy 3 up to Weaverville and stay there for 2 nights. Hwy 36 is nice but there was alot of traffic. I've heard it's alot more fun the closer you get to Red Bluff, alot of whoops, elevation changes and chances to get airborne but I turned off on 3.

Highway 3 between 96 and Weaverville is AWESOME... (see next post)

This is the type of E-ticket thrill ride that's waiting for you on Hwy 3. I got my knee down (twice!) on this turn (swear to God

) which isn't that big a deal until you consider that A.) I'm on a Triumph Tiger B.) with luggage and C.) I'm kinda lame. Imagine what a good rider on proper sportbike could do on this type of road...
BTW, this is my favorite turn in the world, I plan on having my ashes scattered here when the time comes, but not on the racing line!

There was alot of smoke up there from the Shasta fire, my heart goes out to the people who lost their homes and it made for a really creepy sunset.

If you're riding at night up there, keep a good look out for these radioactive alien surveillance devices. They are equipped with Xenon bulb headlights and are all over the place. Many of them could be seen lying by the side of the road, apparently waiting for parts...

An early start Saturday morning and it was up on Hwy 3 towards Yreka. This was at about 8:30 AM, if I could ride roads like this every morning I wouldn't need coffee.

The lumber industry is king up there but it seems like it's probably not the safest job you could find. Wonder what the highest number they've ever gotten to on this sign?

Here's where it gets mindblowing - you HAVE to get up there to ride 96 before you die. This is pretty much Hwy 96 in a nutshell. Think you could deal with about 3 hours of this?

Okay, last one - This is TriCat at the end of the trip. Final count, 926 bugs or one for every mile traveled. If you're interested in making the trip, you would need 3 days, one up there, one to make the loop and one to get back. Would suggest booking a room for 2 nights either in Weaverville or Willow Wreek, at the crotch of 96 and 299/ You can get a decent room in Weaverville for $50 a night, a pretty small price to pay for a few days of some of the best riding you will ever get to do. When you do go, have fun, be safe and let 'er rip!
