Meeting up in high places - Sonora Pass

Went for a ride last weekend over to South Lake Tahoe. Rode Sonora pass, up and down Ebbets, Monitor pass to Markleeville and back.

Met these nice people on a group ride from Gardner, Nevada who invited us to breakfast if we are ever out that way.

Continued on 108 and we were catching the group and decided it was time for another stop to enjoy the area.

Continued on down the other side. The road was so nice we went back up to the summit and then back down again.

Got to Walker, kind of hungrey and ready for a break so stopped at Walker Burger, a regular favorite. Got the story on sponsoring a plastic duck in the annual plastic duck race to help stock the river and sat and watched the bikes go by.

Went on to South Lake Tahoe and stayed at a lodge. The view out the room was pretty nice.

The next day we rode back to Markleeville, up 4 to Ebbets pass, down Monitor pass to Walker for another stop at Walker Burger, then back over Sonora Pass and home. A good ride in all.

Just did that ride last weekend. Can't help but wonder why there aren't more bikes on those roads. It sure was nice of them to lay new asphalt at teh top of the pass. Here's my shot from what appears to be the same spot.

Isn't that a coincidence? The big tree to the far right in my picture is the same tree to the far left in your picture. I am standing on the road down below after going around the bend. The pavement was really good on 108. That road is about 75 miles of rollercoaster ride. A fair number of bikes do get out that way. I always meet some dedicated riders when I do those rides. I like how there isn't a whole lot of traffic. The people who get out there can count on some good riding. Of course you do have to endure crossing the central valley to get there and that might account for why there are not more bikes over that way.
