How many times have you crashed (tarmac)

How many times have you put the bike on the ground on pavement? Poll is NOT public.

With or without a helmet?

Too many times for both..

Edit:

#1) Low-side on wet turn while trying to beat other vehicle on Lincoln Blvd at Baker Beach. Approximate speed 40-45 - no helmet - No injury

#2) Low-side because no front brake and cars short stopped in front of me on Geary Blvd at Park Presidio so I had to lay her down to avoid rear ending, slid into oncoming lanes of other side of street.. Approximate speed 35 - no helmet - No injury

#3) Broadsided truck. Mis-judged timing of light while passing on the right and didn't see the light change until too late.. Broadsided truck in the intersection (with a cast on my throttle side hand) - Low speed. No Helmet, no injury

#4) Over the bars - missed driveway to Safeway on 32nd and Clement while being chased by psycho chic's in a Pontiac GTO.. Flew in the air long enough to think "Hey, I'm flying like superman" - Speed approx 35-45 but probably less since I'd scrubbed off a lot of speed before attempting to get into the parking lot.. No helmet.. Shoulder injury (not dislocated, but damage showed on MRI 35 years later)

Above four were all before I was 19 years old.

#5) Low-side as a passenger on Waldo Grade. New rider couldn't keep it in his lane and we bounced off the car next to us twice before getting wobble and going down.. Approximate speed 75. Lots of road rash on leg and buttock. Helmet saved my life as I watched the face shield tear off and saw the pavement going by my eyes inside the helmet.

#6) parking lot front end wash out on gravel - low speed - barely worth mentioning

#7) Front flat in Baja - lost the bead on the tire and was essentially on the rim. Smashed into hillside. Approximate speed 40-50 - Helmet saved my life I'm sure.. Broken arm, dislocated shoulder, punctured sinus, broken finger, cut head, possible concussion, ect...

No mentions of dirt crashes..

2 for me. 1 lowside at about 60mph on hwy 129 very minor injuries. Another time technically it wasnt tarmac because I was in the dirt when I had to lay the bike down after running wide or go into a barb wite fence.

In the dirt I have had 4 crashes. 2 serious and 2 minor

Let's see.

5.

1) Scooter, dark, in the rain, on a college campus, wasn't going too fast, but I missed a curve and ended up hitting a curb with the bike. Skinned my elbow. Nothing like showing up to class wet and bloody.

2) Scooter, left turn lane, got the green arrow, every day, no drama left turn, lost the rear end, spread eagle sliding down the pavement. Mostly ate a shoe and some of my gloves.

3) Radian, lane splitting, guy merged in to me on a transition, knocked me over, tweaked my ankle. Most annoying part was since the road was sloped, when I went to pick up the bike, it fell over on the other side >.<.

4) Radian, 2am, took a different route home, slowing for a right turn, dew coated painted arrow, lost the front, hit the curb hard enough to chip my helmet. Banged up my knee, broke my thumb. A driver helped me get the bike up, I took myself to a local ER Just In Case. Rode the bike home, that took me over an hour. I was less than 10 miles from home. Every twitch of the bike had me on edge. I never felt right on that bike again, and sold it soon after, replaced it with a Hawk.

5) Hawk GT, struck from behind at a stop light. Bike never hit the ground, car was stuck between the rear tire and subframe.

I have had a couple of blown turn excursions, and managed to drop the Hawk once when I forgot the kick stand. But I've not had a get off since then.

At least 100 times.

I grew up in New Orleans and loved motorcycles but I came from a relatively poor upbringing and my parents were not going to buy me a bike so I had to buy my own bike. I learned how to ride from an uncle on his dirt bikes and was hooked.

Moved to Ca and wanted a bike and bought a 1980 CB750F and learned how to ride on the street. This was before the helmet law and I can't believe I am alive. No idea what I was doing but I wanted to learn and I had big balls. I crashed that bike 20 plus times in 5 years.

Thought I should learn on a lighter bike so I bought an XT550 and started wearing a helmet. Crashed that bike at least 15 times. Did learn to ride better on that bike.

Bought a gsxr1100 and only had a minor tip over on that bike when my rear wheel was on sand and it was nighttime and when i took off fell over. Then a ZX7 and rode it for 10 years no crashing until I had a head on on Redwood Road and broke both arms. BTW that sucks, I highly advise against doing this. Be married or in a really strong relationship because someone will have to wipe your ass.

Bought another ZX7 and rode it without crashing for 5 years. Then numerous track bikes and street bikes and dirt bikes. I have a ridiculous collection of bikes at this point.

I learned the hard way. There was no one to teach me and I wanted to ride and there was nothing that was going to stop me. I would think that is probably impossible now a days with so many people on the road and all of them have cell phones and holy shit, I can only think it is so much more dangerous today.

Funny because now I am a ATGATT and wouldn't dream of riding without all the safety equipment.

10 years and 60,000 miles without a crash then 4 crashes in 4 years.

Crash on Mt Hamilton one year, then my damn street the next year, then Sonoma the next year, and a crash at Thunderhill the next year.

Somehow I haven't crashed this year, so things are looking up!
