slowly remove the 10mm bolts that hold down the cam cap. work in the reverse of the tightening order, which is stamped on the cam cap. loosen them slowly. after they're removed, gently wiggle the cam cap loose.

remove the shim from the bottom side of the bucket. use this formula to calculate the new shim size.

A=(B-C) + D

A=new shim size.
B=recorded valve clearance.
C=specified valve clearance.
D=old shim thickness.

repat for all valves that need adjustment on the intake. then put the intake cam back in and remove the exhaust cam and repeat. once all the valves are adjusted, replace the cams and cam cap. make sure all the timing marks line up. torque the cam cap bolts to 10 N/m. remove the flatblade screwdriver from the CCT and it will tighten up. recheck all valve clearances to make sure that they're were you want them to be. reinstall the ignition & valve covers, spark plug, wires, harness connections etc... and hook up your carb for a sync.

this is the screw you turn to adjust the carbs sync. there is 1 screw between evey pair of carbs. adjust 1/2 1st then 3/4 and 2/3 to finish.

Excellent write up Elskipador. Thanks for taking the extra time.

Anyone care to do the same for a ZX10r?

I would like to mention that you have to loosen the radiator and move it down to slide the cylinder head cover out the front of the frame.
