Price-wise the options seem to compare well with BMW too. I see $2600 extra for the Special with all the things except factory luggage. For BMW I'd expect 3 packages from $1200-$2500 with different, not totally compatible features, where I'd want two packages to get all the things including luggage.

Anyone remember the backlash from the HD fanboys when Harley launched a watercooled motor on the V-Rod?

Can someone who's a hardcore H-D person tell us what the feel is like for this bike amongst the H-D community?

As someone with a deposit in on a new R1250GS, it is an interesting competitor. However, I don't think I would abandon the gold-standard in the segment for a newcomer just yet. Maybe I'll regret it in a few months...

I'm by no means a hardcore HD person but I have a feeling that the backlash may not be as bad in this segment as it's not trying to pull hardcore HD folks.

They are not trying to say "Hey, you with the T-Bars on your Dyna! Come ride through Kenya on our new Harley!"

If I'm a hardcore Harley guy I just don't care as long as they keep making the bikes I enjoy as well. I think the backlash was the worry they were trying to replace what those guys rode with the V-Rod.

Not an H-D guy at all but that looks like a great bike at a great price. Pleasantly surprised.

I would still like to see that motor used in an FTR style street bike....

Deposits are refundable, right? You can always take a test ride of other bikes that interest you, if you're concerned.

Not at all. Isnt that more than the current 1250GS puts out? I know its more than my 1250RS does.

Indeed!

As for the vibration thing, since mostly non-pirate wannabe types will be eyeballing/buying this motorcycle, they should probably take a page from from KTM and BMWs playbook and just reduce the vibration as much as possible. I dont recall anyone complaining about smoothness on a GS.

It looks pretty awesome on paper. A lot better than I expected. I don't like the weird headlight and fairing though.

didn't mean to imply I didn't like the new engine ...
was just making a bit of fun of the typically (imo) H-D interface between engineering and marketing.
"it's gotta vibrate, or it won't "feel" right!"

also, like to think my stock '85 EVO makes 30 hp, so 150 hp is crazy.
I'd probably just hurt myself ... so--if we want to count me as a part of the HD community---
would say the feel is ... fear?

guess we'll see how may they make/sell ...

I like the ugly headlight/fairing abomination.

Yeah, that fairing looks like it was designed by Buick.

Here for my weekly segment of "let's pee on the new Multistrada": reviews and ride reports are in and folks are saying it's great when compared to a new GS but not the sporty road-focuses tourer the previous-gen owners were hoping for. Feels comfy / sporty / great all-rounder and a worthwhile competitor to the GS.. but I want my Pikes Peak version.

Also, Zack Courts', and other folks', reviews are saying about 170-175mi per tank, which doesn't surprise me at all based on previous Multistradas... so basically you'll be gassing up 60-70mi before your GS buddies.

If the detuned V4 for the Multi V4S gets that kind of range from its tank - wtf kind of range is the Streetfighter V4 getting, or do people not care about that kind of thing for a bike like that?

Give me a 17"-front-wheel'd Multi V4S with the Streetfighter V4 and I'll be happy with my 110mi-filled-to-dry fuel range.
