I-70 east is a beautiful drive. The people who came via 80 instead of 50 should return via 50 see to the view, amazing.

Saturday and one side of the large garage was filled with bikes. It was also filled with shit-talking between the two-stroke riders and one rider of an inferior four stroke. OaklandF4i introduced us to the pink unicorn stuffed animal, which would be worn as a mark of shame for the rider voted most deserving of it after each day.

After breakfast by Sasquatch, Sunday we left at 9 AM for Sand Flats recreation area for a warm up ride. We would use the ride to feel out everybody's skill levels, starting on easier trails, Slickrock singletrack and Fins & Things.

Slickrock was more difficult than expected, very, very tight with many, many off-cambers. Few ledges or climbs, but one caught Sasquatch and bent and broke his KTM (Kan't Take Moab). OaklandF4i got a flat, fixed it, and immediately got another flat. WTF?

The bicyclists were cool and many were motorcyclists. Jackson may have had a negative encounter with a pedaller.

The views from Slickrock were great, over Hwy 128 along the Colorado river. We had a lot of down time to admire the views! We regrouped for lunch snacks after completing Slickrock trail.

Talking

On Fins & Things we shared the trail with Jeeps and side by sides (Razors) instead of bicycles.

It was a mix of sand, dirt, slickrock, flat rocks, and rock climbs and rock drop-offs.

Our first challenge was a steep rock climb and we all made it up without drama. People were under-representing their abilities, plus the surfeit of traction made it easy if you carried even a little momentum.

I got a good view of the Baja-honed sand riding skills of AnyTwoWillDo and HadesOmega. There were many soft turns, not true sand but very soft, fine dirt (silt).

We rode up on ridges (fins) with nice views. We encountered numerous obstacles. The most difficult was a blind left turn in sand that led to a vertical rock wall that was as tall as a house before it flattened out. It was no match for even a KLX140 (HadesOmega).

At the end of the day OaklandF4i nominated Sasquatch to carry the pink unicorn. However, he himself was voted to carry it because of his two flats and the fact that he didn't bring any water or snacks with him. This guy is a Baja vet? Pfft.

I think the overfilling of his gas tank and covering himself in fuel is what earned him the pink pony. Pretty sure I'm going to end up with it on my bike tomorrow after my poor effort on the single track today.

Felt like I redeemed myself in the sand.

Pics from yesterday's warm-up, tune-up, feel-out ride at Sand Flats recreation area.

Singletrack bike trail

NorcalSlowpoke talking to some friendly pedal-bikers on the right

Sasquatch before a downhill; yetis do not like downhills

1962siia88 taking in the Colorado river

OaklandF4i tire change #1; another reason he got the pink unicorn for the day was he didn't bring wheel removal tools

Fins & Things

We had our hands full on this trail and I got only these two pics at a rest break in the shade.

Today we did some of the Sovereign ATV/4x4 trail loop and some of the Sovereign singletrack. The morning group was without Sasquatch as he visited a bike shop to buy parts and make repairs.

We did some of the ATV loop and at a pause I remarked the trail kinda sucked, which earned me an instant nomination for the pink unicorn.

We got on the singletrack loop and it was fun and hard, with many small obstacles.

There were also good views.

There was a gnarly downhill that saw some riders bulldog their bikes down between the rocks.

Our most talented rider, Eric B, dropped his bike near the top, not pictured. Here is slightly less talented HadesOmega also dropping his bike.

Just got the two-minute warning for pasta dinner by Sasquatch. Gotta go for now but I have more pics to post later. Video will have to wait.

I got out here a day early. Went and rode the Sovereign area, and the 7 mile Rim/ Monitor Merrimack trails.
Fun portion of trail in the Sovereign Trails area.

More from Sovereign singletrack...

Coming up a tricky obstacle...

Nice view.

Break time

Double red black diamond trail goes thataway. We went the other way.

We returned to the trucks where Sasquatch had his bike back in action. Just when we were about to leave for the second loop Jackson noticed he had a flat front tire. That's number three, in a few hours of total riding.

HadesOmega got on his quad on went full quadtard in the parking lot, earning the tard trophy for tomorrow. At least the manager didn't come out and yell at him like OaklandF4i earlier.
