Looks like Formula 3 has been revised to allow up to only 400cc singles, instead of 450cc like it has been in years past. Meanwhile, Formula 2 and 4 limit singles to a minimum of 451cc and 500cc, respectively (not that a 450cc single would be remotely competitive in either of those classes anyways). Which means my new race bike is legal for exactly ONE class... Formula singes, open cc. Whooo!

Hopefully the rulebook is in error, looking forward to a response from AFM (email copied below).

Hi all, just checking out the 2020 rulebook and noticed that Formula 3 was revised to "100-400cc, 4 stroke, single cylinder." Prior years were 100-450cc 4-stroke singles.

Unfortunately, this now leaves a 401-450cc 4-stroke single-cylinder gap in the Formula classes:
F3: 100-400cc
F2: 451-Open
F4: 500-Open

This means that my race-based, 450cc 4-stroke single is legal for only one class, Formula†Singles, 245-Open cc.†

I understand that a bike like this would reduce the amount of racing I'd get to participate in, but it's disappointing†to be down to only one class. Certainly makes it hard to justify the effort of coming out to an AFM weekend. I'm hoping that the rulebook is in error and there still is a home for a 401-450cc single in one of the F2-F4 classes.

Looking forward to your reply,

Kegan Connick

Update from the board meeting last night, via Gordon Pull on Facebook:

“This was discovered to be a simple typo and will now read the same as last year's rules. 450CC singles will be allowed in F3.”
