I'm excited for this, I've ridden a bunch of those routes in the Death Valley area. Lippincott mine road is no joke, it's not quite to the level of Utah's Lockhart Basin but it's intense.

If someone wants a kinda fun detour, heading west from the West Side Road in Death Valley to the abandoned Warm Springs resort gives a great place to camp for the night. It's a beautiful oasis with a burbling brook, a good source of water and some lush greenery in the middle of a sun-blasted hellscape.

Going further west into Striped Butte Valley you can re-trace the footsteps of that German family that got lost and died back in July of 1996.

anyone see anything about a BDR show in San Francisco on Facebook?

edit:

the 3/7/19 event at Anchor Steam is not yet listed under the BDR's CABDR event link, above ... guess soon, maybe, and we'll find out then what time the event will begin on 3/7/19?

It's a nice place to base out of to spend a few days exploring the Striped Butte Valley and old mining roads in the area. The road up to Warm Springs is well-maintained gravel, suitable for any passenger vehicle or car-based SUV, but as you head west it gets rougher. It's not a difficult route by any means, but more like you want a pickup truck or real SUV instead of a RAV-4.

*edit* if anyone is feeling ambitions, it's possible to continue west/south over Mengle Pass and past the Barker Ranch, but this is a VERY difficult road. I wouldn't advise it on road-oriented dual-sports, a WR250 or DRX-400-S would be okay as long as you've got the skill to make your way up and over a bunch of couch-sized boulders.

Hmm damn looks like with this government shutdown a lot of the attractions at the National Parks are closed. Maybe it's time to add another BDR to cross off the bucketlist... But man I would have to ride down to Yuma to start it, I went to Yuma last year near Glamis and that's quite a trek, it probably farther than the NVBDR start point.

Dang this thread dropped off into the archives already. Anyway I'm planning to ride the SocalBDR soon but being the BMW fanboy that I am even though I don't own one I get emails from there. There is a going to be a screening of the Socal BDR movie this week at SJ BMW. Unfortunately I think I will be on the road by then I wouldn't want to spoil it for myself anyway, but here's the info from the RideBDR website:

San Jose BMW Motorcycles, 1990 W San Carlos St, San Jose, CA 95128 View Map.

6 p.m. - Doors open
7 p.m. - Film followed by Q&A with BDR Ambassador Trevor Martin

Admission: $5

Fo more information, call 408-295-0205 or visit www.sjbmw.com

This event is hosted by San Jose BMW Motorcycles.

Anybody know when the Northern California BDR will be available?

That one should have areas that I'm a lot more familiar with.

I’m not sure but I bet it goes through some of the recent fire zones. Might be a while before some of those areas are open.

I'm glad they split the north and south up because I was not ready for the Nevada one, it was like 900 miles! Imagine how many miles a full CA BDR would be! It would be over 1000+ for sure!

One thing I don't like about the BDR is you are riding south to north or north to south the climate changes DRAMATICALLY. It was like 90F in the southern section then as soon as you get half way it plummets to like 50-60s!

So I'm planning the SocalBDR and it's the same story when I get to Benton Hot Springs that's it Sierra Nevada can't pass it go around, too much snow. I think the ideal time to do these rides are in May or June.
