Here we are at Mission San Javier. This is a very nice little mission. We parked at the mission and I took a buncha pictures and we had lunch at little restaurant. Talk about excellent service once we got there they started pumpin out the burritos! They even had functional restrooms. Now I'm the sorta person I don't care where we're going as long as it is scenic and this definitely was VERY scenic. =)

Parking at the mission

Mission San Javier small mission nestled in the mountains

Its burros is what's for lunch! Better stuff yourself well because we got one helluva ride coming up!

The restaurant we had lunch at

The road in the middle of the town

We weren't the only tourists here, but I'm sure we're the only ones that are going to ride that gnarly road to the next mission.

Day 4 - Rocky Road from San Javier to Comondu

Let me start this off by saying this is probably the most technical section that I have done for the whole trip. Unlike the other sections we had been doing we're going up, down, over rocks, avoiding boulders, cliffs, animals, and watercrossings! One thing is didn't have is sand though, that would have made it interesting! Let's begin!

Heading out from San Javier on those beautiful stone roadways, hasta la vista!

Climbing out of San Javier

Riverbed going to San Javier, was hard to see coming in but going out you get a nice shot of it here.

Back through the rocky watercrossing.

Heading down the slab we took the San Javier we hang a left onto the dirty stuff. The BARF expedition is about to get dirty!

At the very beginning we do our first dirty watercrossing now with boulder!

Long straight dirt roads leading up to the mountains.

Riding in the canyons, this part reminds me a lot of Titus Canyon in Death Valley.

Nothing too bad yet and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

The only oncoming traffic we encountered on this road.

There is some evidence of life out here. Usually when we got near any kind of water there would be a hut near it.

Another water crossing the rest of them are very similar to this.

And another... hey I'm getting good at this!

Its getting steeper!

Another long straight to dem der mountains where the FUN begins!

It looks like there were some structures here once upon a time.

Takin a little breather and back on the road

Its getting rockier

And rockier

Another watercrossing

Boulders begin to appear on the sides of the roads. Now this is a sign of things to come. Can you guess the theme for the rest of this section will be like?

Rocky Road! Now it just gets rockier and rockier. The time for choosing a safe line around large rocks or ride over them is a key decision one must make when riding this road!

Oh YAY! Now let me just say the camera makes this look tamer than it really looks. This badboy is steep and ladden with case cracking, wheel bending rocks. BRING IT!

Look at this craziness, so you notice its going up a little on the left, then BAM your going up A LOT!

This is one of two rocky hillclimbs. I can do hillclimbs yup... I can do rockyroads yup... But hillclimbs up rocky roads! Anyway in this picture you see I must have panic'd and head for this pile of rocks and well I stalled. I'm sure if I had elected to blast over it would have been fine but I didn't wanna risk getting a flat.

I'm stuck, this is steep and I'm getting tired and hot. And these rocks are being mean to me!

Finally back on track, time to tractor up this hill in 1st gear!

Before that lets look at what we've been climbing!

I made it around the corner and its still steep and rocky.

Oh my let's stay away from that.

And up we go.

I've stalled again, I look at how far we've gone. It's quite an amazing sight and awesome ride thus far. I must conquer this hill!

C'mon good ol tractor motor!

I'm fixing my throttle rocker. Its come up too high on the throttle.

Yes rocky hillclimb CLEAR!

Still not clear of the rocky stuff though O_o'

I would often see a scene such as this. In this one Saltwater is fixing his luggage. The rocky road is just beatin the tar outta our bikes and people's luggage come loose. I however am proud to say that I have not had any luggage malfunctions on this section thus far even will all the crazy rocks. I know how to secure my gear because Metcalf is my home OHV park and there's plenty of terrain like this on Trail 3!

Eagle and cactus, THIS IS MEXICO!

ThumperX flying by

Back on track

We have survived Cactus Puncher at least to the first rest stop. We regroup after the crazy hillclimb.

Oh Merlin. you are doing such a fantastic job on this ride report. The pictures barely capture the steepness of the landscape.
I think as a whole, we all did pretty well with the rocks.

Continuing on! We're probably more than halfway to Comondu.

What goes up must eventually come down right? Well here we are at a steep decent down the mountain with some switchbacks.

Check this drop out!

Still rocky as hell! So I was saying to myself here, I have problems with my throttle rocker where I'd give I'd hit and it would throttle up quickly. Well I was going around this switchback and saying DON'T blip the throttle whatever you do, because if you do your bike and probably myself will go right off the cliff!

Down we go

More luggage malfunctions at the next switcback

Still going down

Eghads look at this mess

Finally it stabilizes

Look at this hole in the ground I laugh as I fly over it

A small watercrossing I think I just go around it, it looks small in the picture but when up close...

More huts

More malfunctions

Its still rocky and getting tougher

Onward!

So just when you think it will get better it will get worse again soon

Saltwater, when he was stopped I asked him whats up? He said a big rock hit his footpeg. I think he was worried it messed something up. I told him hey I got lowered footpegs I hit them all the time BWHAHA

Speaking of hitting rocks see this one here I hit that bad pretty well and it put a nice dent on my skidplate.

THANK GOODNESS FOR SKIDPLATES! Haha sorry I couldn't resist.

Itsa gettin steep again!

By the way this is where we're at right now

Cactus puncher is tired and wants to take a nap nap

Well fine mess I seem to have gotten myself in to. I'm at a steep rocky climb and the bike is on its side and its fully loaded what to do now? TAKE A BREAK and take in the beauty of the treacherous terrain we have been riding.

ThumperX motoring by, I don't blame her for not stopping haha I wouldn't stop either.

Wayne comes by and uh oh

Whew safe

Or so we thought...

Great now two bikes are taking a nap

Just my luck I landed on some doodoo as well

With Sasquatch's help we get both bikes up the right way and try to get off this damn hill.

Trying to push it again and nap nap time again

Whew well finally made it someplace decent norcalslowpoke tells me to go ahead with Saltwater.

Away we go

Climbin Climbin

Saw this truck out here

BAM movin right along now!

Odd looks like this is the remnants of an old road or maybe river crossing?

...to be continued...

These pictures just don't show how bad the hill climbs were. They're were a lot of fun but my damn bike started to overheat on the first hill when I pulled off to tighten up my bag, the oil temp said 280 degrees. Your bike was so loaded down it must have felt really sketchy going up those hills. I wish the Strom would have went down this trail, it would have given me an idea of what this bike is capable of.
