A long time ago, I bought a shitty chain tool. I was young & broke. It worked for a long time.

I just put a new chain & sprockets on. I had a hard time with the rivet link. My tool is crap, but I got the chain & sprockets on. I can't really tell if the rivet is sufficiently riveted or not.

Srsly, I may just order a clip link at this point. Even if it costs $20 after shipping.

should be fine. All you need is to expand end by 0.2-0.3mm

Well....
-I think the Motion Pro PBR tool is the bomb BUT.....
-I keep a couple clip style master links in the box just in case.

Not a bad idea to have a few around.

I bought the DiD tool and while it's probably not as versatile and the motion pro tool it's pretty straight forward to rivet the links.

A top view would be better, but by the looks of the two inner marks on the pins, it appears you put enough pressure on it. As mentioned above you just need to flare it about 0.010 -0.015".

When it comes to chains, I believe clip links are safe. But with a riveted set, I want to be sure.

I forget which one I have, but it's pretty budget. HOW to rivet the link is straight forward. It's just that the riveter has a pretty small head that's hard to hit dead on. So, hard to tell if I got a good swing with the hammer.

Yeah, unfortunately, I've done both heads & didn't measure the outside diameter before doing so. I remember it being easier last time, so I figured it would be the same this time.

Do you have any other link of the same chain? If so, you can measure that.

Hmmm, if I can get the tips of my caliper on the inside of the chain link, I can measure the diameter of the pin from there, then compare it to the outside diameter on the "riveted" links.

I suppose that was kinda obvious, but I just needed something to jiggle in my brain.
